Default Remove smoke smell from slipcivers?

I was given a fairly large collection of Blus. They all reek of smoke. Is there anything I can do to draw the odor out?

Sorry if this is the wring section for this question.

Depends how bad. If mild, I usually just leave them out and have a fan blow through it for a while. Basically airing them out. Maybe lightly wipe with alcohol (not on any paper) If it's real bad, you might be SOL. Maybe someone will know better. Usually try to avoid smoke ruined things.

People are disgusting and need to learn how to smoke outside their home. Instead of ruining everything. You'd be shocked how many awesome things I come along in the wild only to turn it down because it stinks of smoke so bad I literally want to vomit and not worth it even for free.

Maybe try putting them with those laundry sheets in a container. Leave it there for a couple days or so.

I've been buying from goodwill lately and I have run into this problem a few times. I found something that worked for me. You need to remove slip cover, cover art and inserts and place them in a large storage container with dryer sheets. Keep the disk in with the case and place it in the bin along with everything else. Do not remove the disk from the case. Otherwise, you may end up with residue from the dryer sheets on the disks and it's not fun to clean that off.

I don't think you can really get the smell out of paper products, but it seems that you can mask it to a certain extent. The chemicals from the smoke are probably in there for good. It's really nasty stuff.

Start smoking yourself and you won't notice it.

Thanks for the tips, everyone. There's some really rare, or was at one point, slips in there, like Bram Strokers Dracula and original Fast and Furious slips. So I want to try and be as careful as possible.

After my brother died a few years ago we took his stuff-including his pictures. Everything stunk of smoke. What we did was to get a plastic storage big enough to cover everything with a lid on it-and pu the pictures in it with an open box of baking soda(like the ones you use for your fridge. I left it in there for a couple of weeks, and it worked fine. You might want to do it for more than a couple of weeks. Or do it for 2, and if still a smell-put in a fresh box until smell is gone. I also used it to get the smell off of hockey cards I have got that stunk of smoke also.

I once bought a Total Recall DVD and Alien Anthology set and some other odds and ends like season sets (some for the slips because they were cooler than the Bluray slips) from a guy in a trailer (who had to move)he advertised hundreds of films on a social media site that my cousin told me about. I went to the trailer and the guys belongings were nice but him and his woman smoked like chimneys and they had lots of Dogs that they seemed to allow to defecate and pee everywhere… (weird i know, the rest of their things above the carpet and couch looked quite nice with no dust as though they cleaned alot.) The odor at the threshold of the door about dropped me lol, once in the trailer it was palpable, it was like swimming in a mist of Nicotine, dog piss, dog crap, and a Meth lab…I paid like $20.00 for 6 or 7 films and a couple of series went home and pitched the cases, cleaned the series discs and pitched the discs that i bought the film simply for the slips. I did this with alcohol and misted with fabreeze at a distance. Had to leave shortly after and spent the night at my sisters… when I came home, I kid you not, that tiny batch of films made my whole House smell like that dudes trailer, I threw out all that I had purchased, straight into the dumpster outside, along with the new clean cases and the bluray disc i paired with the cooler slips…THEY WERE ALL GONE and took nearly a week to eliminate that odor…I will never again purchase anything with a mild or slight smell of Stank ever again!!!

Consider looking into activated charcoal., its very good at absorbing odors.

Wiping the cases down with a 50/50 mix of water and white vinegar will remove most smoke residue.

How expensive is a pack of smokes for you lot?

I used to work at grocery store from 2004-2011, was amazing w/ taxes placed on them... People kept buying them like normal. They'd ***** about it but still buy them.

VERY expensive.

But here's the thing and it pisses me off: Nicotine is HIGHLY addictive. Trust me, I've had my share of brushes with addictions to various substances and the ONLY one I've consistently failed to get past is nicotine.

Bear in mind that I'm pretty old now - I was born in 1967. My parents smoked like chimneys. People smoked on buses, trains, planes, in cinemas, everywhere. We were bombarded with ads for cigarettes which stopped just short of suggesting cigarettes were actually good for you.

Then there was this sudden sea-change and they started banning smoking everywhere. Now I'm pretty much in favour of that as I don't want to see this habit survive into the future. What irked me is that suddenly, us smokers were seen as crawling scum by the very society that hammered the habit into us.

Here in the UK at least, the strategy has been to raise the price of cigarettes incrementally every year - the key word being "incrementally". So to an addict, raising the price of their substance by a few pence/cents isn't really going to be a disincentive.

Now if they were really serious about stopping people smoking, they'd raise the price by, say, £10 ($14 or so) each time and that would give even the most serious addicts pause. Better yet, they could just ban them outright, which they would do with almost any other product that was judged to be so harmful to consumer health.

But the truth is, they don't WANT people to stop smoking, at least not all at once, because cigarettes still bring in a HUGE amount of tax revenue. And any government that actually banned smoking outright would also have to preside over a substantial tax increase on non-smokers to make up the shortfall.

So the disingenuousness of it pisses me off. Smoking is dumb as hell but let's not be so sanctimonious about it - all of us are prone to addictions, whether it's a substance or work, sex, name your poison. Those lucky enough to not be addicted to anything often like to believe they're possessed of some kind of strength of will that others aren't but science and psychology tell a different story - genetics, mental health, upbringing, circumstance all shape these things.

This is definitely the way to go. You can probably put the standard ones in with the items in a storage tote. Or get the shoe ones and actually slip them through the slipcase and let them sit. Won't really deform them.
