USA Godzilla Minus One (2023) Blu-ray

Toho Studios will be releasing Godzilla Minus One (2023) as a standalone Blu-ray on November 19th. It's part of a wide release rollout, which will be releasing this movie on all formats, including a 4K/Blu-ray Steelbook. This blu-ray release will include the original Japanese audio in Dolby Atmos, as well as an English dubbed track.

Quote:
Japan has barely recovered from the Second World War when a gigantic peril emerges off the coast of Tokyo. Koichi, a deserter traumatised by his first confrontation with Godzilla, sees this as an opportunity to redeem his conduct during the war.

The US disc release is exclusive to the 4-disc Japan Edition that was sold on Godzilla.com. Pre-orders are currently closed but they may have more up for sale when stock arrives.

Would be funny if a bunch of people panic-purchased that expensive collector's set with non-English friendly extras only for there to be a series of domestic releases with English-friendly extras

I'm old enough with enough disposable income that I'll take the chance. I've got the subtitled Japanese set pre-ordered and that'll do for now.

I mean, Minus Color is still exclusive to it, so many of us would have bought it anyway. Plus we don't know if the sets will even have the same extras.
What would be dumb would be buying the Deluxe version only to have to buy the standard edition later for the extras and/or dub. Shouldn't the deluxe have everything? My only guess with why they went with that direction was because it was faster to just slap subs to the Japanese encoded discs rather than wait a couple of months to finalize the retail discs. Though I'm still hoping they'll update the specs for the Deluxe set to match the retail one.

What IS funny is how many bootlegs are going into the trash now.

Thrown away instead of being kept as collectables?

What a waste.

Thanks for the info, I had no idea about this, since I didn't follow the news closely enough I guess. I guess the pre-order allowed them to gauge demand, but it's kind of annoying that they'd close orders. I imagine they've got to be producing more stock than what was sold in the pre-order though. I've signed up for notifications on the product page, so fingers crossed.

I don't regret showing support for the release. Is it annoying? Yes, but I don't regret it. At the time, we had no idea if some of the content would be available in North America at all.

Wait, what's the difference in the specs? Sigh, why is something that should be so simple, so hard?

Based on what info we currently have;

Deluxe set:
-Minus Color on Blu-ray (exclusive)
-Japanese audio
-Japanese, English, and Spanish subtitles
-Bonus features disc (Japanese audio only, no subs)

Wide retail editions:
-Japanese audio and English dub
-English, Spanish, and French subtitles
-Bonus features disc (in English, exact content TBA)

It is also likely that the Deluxe set will use the Japanese presentation of the film, while the retail editions will use the English presentation that was shown in North American theaters and is on Netflix. The differences are just the location markers and the title reveal mainly.

I have to say both the front and back are not great. Not sure what they were thinking here, poorly designed compared to the elegance of the limited edition.

I won't get into all the details from a design point of view, after all it's the discs that matter, but this is the first time in a long time that the cover design of a major release has made me stop and think about it.

November 19th. I listed it in the first post, but I'll add it to my recent post above too. Gruv and others confirm the date.
