Default 8K UHDs and players

Sony announced that they are working on a 8K UHD players.. They plan announcing a model in 2026 or 2027.. Other studios also announced having more movies in 8K HDR in 2026 or 2027.. They also said that streaming or cable viewing in 2030 to 2033.. TV companies will start launching more 8K TV's in 2026 or 2027.. Currently, 8Ks are very expensive and limited.. The 8K TV's and players will be from 144hz to 480hz.. This is just a proposed plan.. Nothing is in stone till actual sales and in stores..

The amount of true 8K content must still be quite small at this point. I really wish they would instead stick to improving the 4K format. I've not had too many issues myself, but I keep reading about current players having issues with certain discs (in particular, the 100gb discs). It seems to have been awhile since any of the big brands released a new 4K UHD player. On top of that, it would be nice for them to look at improving the protective layer, as we seem to be getting a plethora of scratched discs in this format - something that wasn't a big issue with Blu-ray disc. That's the main thing that has stopped me from expanding my 4K collection in the past couple of years.

I gotta be honest...I really don't see the point in 8K as a physical media format.

I argue 4K is pretty much all you really need at this point.

I don't feel like we have enough titles on 4k yet to just go ahead and make the jump to 8k.

Sony also announced that they will be launching the PS6 in 2027 or 2028, depending on the software and hardware sales of the PS5 Pro.. PS6 is projected to be 8K 120hz.. PS5 Pro is projected to 4K 120hz, 8K 60 hz.. If this really preforms that way, it would be awesome.. But i doubt it, since Sony said the PS5 was going to run 4K 60hz on most games.. That failed..

Honestly, we shouldn't be getting 8k this early, 4K still is an expensive format with a good chunk of notable films not even hitting it yet, to be already upgrading to 8k this early with no improvements being done to 4k is wild, sony should just focus on improving the 4k format before they even consider releasing 8k into the world. Though to also be honest I'm sure this is sony future-proofing 8k as a disc format so there won't be a format war.

I remember everyone saying the same thing when 4K was announced, yet here we are. I still think BD is good enough to get a true cinematic experience. 4K is a bit extra, and 8K will be way extra.

I'm doubting this will happen. 4k already isn't doing well. They say because of streaming, I say because they keep doubling prices of the discs with every new format. In an age of everyone owning a HDTV DVD still outsells 4k and even standard blu ray. I don't think that would be happening if the movies on those formats cost the same as the DVD versions. But anyway, 8k sounds too expensive and most people wouldn't be able to tell a difference anyway. Once ya get up to 1440p it starts getting hard to tell a difference imo.

I love 4K when it's at its best, but yeah it's definitely a luxury, whereas BD hits the cinematic sweet spot just right. 8k is about as needed as a one legged tap dancing competition.

8K UHD discs and players?
Hell, I'm still waiting for thousands of films and television shows just to be released on Blu-ray finally.
"Sad to say."

Sony announced it at the show.. In my opinion, they were trying to sale consoles, VR headsets.. Just like FaceBook announced Oculus , Meta Quest 3 pro and 3 Slim.. Apple tried a 4K VR headset.. It failed for being very expensive..

Yeah, seems ridiculously early to me too. And where's the demand? I don't hear anyone saying 4k isn't sharp enough.

No they didn't you misheard/misunderstood them, they said the PS5 Pro would support up to 8k gaming (they said same thing with base PS5 at one point), so far only GT7 is the only game to support a 8k mode as I'm aware.

They said nothing about 8k discs or 8k players, the PS5 Pro doesn't even come with a disc drive, that is a add on.

Sure you aren't falling for click bait? because none of that has happened, Sony had no show today. They have a PS5 Pro one this month and then a general games one, but no word of PS6 or anything like that.
