Question Making the switch to Sony for my main console. How do I upgrade games?

So I'm buying a PS5 (not the pro) and making it my main console after the Series S was for 4 years, the big question for you guys is for physical copies of games such as The Witcher or Jedi Survivor on Ps4 how do I get them to turn to their Ps5 versions? I've heard there is an upgrade page or something but for the Witcher its bugged? (read that on Reddit for what its worth). Anyway some help on this would be great. Very excited.

For most of mine, I put in the PS4 disc and it asks me if I want to install the PS5 game. I haven't done this extensively, but it worked for Resident Evils 2-3 Remakes.

As long as you are connected online, the process is pretty automatic and it will tell you as mentioned above that an upgrade is available but just a couple things to be aware of. 1 you always need to ensure the disc is inserted to play and it will remind you of this if you ever try start the PS5 version upgraded via PS4 disc. 2 and this is more annoying than something bad but the original PS4 icon for the game always seems to show up on the games tab. It hasn't installed the PS4 version but it is annoying to look at and needs changing from Sony but the CBA.

Apart from that, buy every single PS4 game you can on the cheap with an upgrade to play. Might be the last time we can do this for games consoles via disc

Its a wonderful time to be collecting PS4 games right now, a lot of em are dirt cheap. Just for example, I picked up a really nice copy of Shadow of Mordor on Ebay yesterday for like... $1.47 plus shipping

Also, welcome to the promised land. The PS5 is a huge jump over Series S

Thank you all for the comments, also yeah nice prices on places like ebay. Speaking of which. I got Jedi Fallen Order for the Ps4 and and I know it has a Ps5 upgrade, or version available anyone own that and ever inserted it? If so what does it give option wise? I want the Ps5 playable not the Ps4 Pro version. Anyway I'm still slightly confused tbh. With Xbox it would just change the logo to X/S and maybe give a slight update then everything worked as it should.

This is one thing MS got extremely right this gen with Smart Delivery. It just works. I can't tell you how many times I got hung up on how to upgrade a PS5 title. The first FF7 part was the worst. Disc, digital or PS Plus all had slightly different ways to do it or some not at all (the PS Plus iirc).

Just to add, not every PS4 -> PS5 upgrade is free. The Resident Evil ones are, but some (like Spider-Man and TLOU Part II) have an upgrade fee.

The upgrade for Fallen Order to PS5 is a free one, should automatically prompt you when installing to ask what version you want to install. If it doesn't, you can try searching for it in the game's "game hub" (scroll over to its image on your home screen, then push down while you have it highlighted and you can see additional information about the game). Finally, if its not there, you can search for it in the store.

If your new to PlayStation, it might be worth watching this once, just to understand what is going on a little better.

In fairness, one is a completely new remastered game they never sold as a stand alone purchase if i recall and is still the case. You got to go through Miles Morales to purchase. TLOU Part 2 also is more of a discounted next gen upgrade for existing owners to purchase if they own the original rather than part of the typical "get both gen versions" most games have when they do make it available.

I'm kinda happy it's offered for now, but i think once the online ability is gone, the pricing on disc versions should be low enough to not grumble either.

If you have physical copies of PS4 games that support free or paid upgrade to the PS5 version, then insert the disc into the PS5, go to the game library, where the update will be. But keep in mind that to run the updated version on the PS5, the disc must always be in the drive. I sold my PS4 and ordered a PS5 Pro, now I'm waiting for it to be delivered to me. While I'm bored, I decided to read the gamblizard.de Blog about the gambling industry. At least somehow I kill my free time, I also started watching streams on Twitch about the games that I will soon start playing. I can't wait. Anyway some help on this would be great. Very excited.

Will it be different for PS5 Pro?

If you mean Spider-Man Remastered, it is available separately on PSN but it is a much better deal if you buy the Miles Morales Ultimate Edition. Not sure about a physical standalone release, I also don't remember if remastered had any paid or free upgrade options for owners of PS4 Spider-Man.

Beware. Avengers removed the PS5 upgrade.
The game's PS4 discs will not activate it.
