The hard-nosed, hammer-in-hand crime thriller YOU WERE NEVER REALLY HERE starring Joaquin Phoenix bursts onto 4K HDR for the first time from Umbrella Entertainment!

Directed by Lynne Ramsay (We Need to Talk About Kevin), with a monumental score from Radiohead’s Jonny Greenwood, this modern masterwork will break you.

Joe (Joaquin Phoenix, Her, Inherent Vice) is a hired gun who rescues trafficked girls, using brutal methods against those responsible. Caring for his elderly mother in his childhood home in New York City, he suffers from graphic flashbacks of his childhood, the abuse he and his mother faced from his violent father, and the brutal past in the military and FBI, and has suicidal thoughts. He embarks on a blood-drenched rescue mission, when Nina (Ekaterina Samsonov), the innocent 13-year-old daughter of an ambitious New York senator, never returns home. But amidst half-baked leads and a desperate desire to shake off the heavy burden of a personal hell, Joe's frenzied plummet into the depths of Tartarus is inevitable, and every step Joe takes to flee the pain, brings him closer to the horrors of insanity.

Brutal flick. This is an excellent development and a pleasant surprise. I'm in all the way for this one on the uhd format.

Great film and this 4K (which I'll buy) will keep it alive as I reckon hardly anyone's heard of it.

Not only Lynne Ramsay in 4K but her best film in 4K…definitely want to get the standard edition (not really interested in any of the overproduced Umbrella sets).

The UHD looks great if you don't like natural skin tones and want everything hyper-teal!!!

I watched this uhd two nights ago and it simply didn't strike me as being overly-tealed. Some scenes have looked like this stylistically even back on the blu ray. I never saw it in theaters.

Yes, certain scenes are styled teal and that is reflected on the original Blu-ray release.
What is surprising though is that someone decided it wasn't teal enough and cranked up the teal some more for the UHD.
That's all I'm pointing out.

Or the wider colour gamut of the UHD format allows for a far more accurate representation of the provided master.

I hope it's not the colourspace conversion error and that it gets rid of the posterization of my SC BD - still waiting for my copy from imusic...

Also just got slightly annoyed because I just saw that imusic has my US Panic Room steely ready to ship already (i.e. even before release date and earlier than expected), but the respective order is still waiting for this one and it seems to take longer than it should've. Hunf.

Always possible. But that's why we have you, andreas. To pre-order everything like a maniac and report back before I commit to any of these imports

I lack the tools to "prove" it and can only say what I think though. With above I for one couldn't voice at least an opinion yet. But it might be it.

re. the maniac: I really try to cut down starting this year. With questionable success. Something that cannot wait here, a very good offer with slip there, I need to buy this, to get a proper impression myself anyway, there (German "Werner" 4K). But other than some pre-orders from last year, it partly shows, so better than nothing I guess.

Don't recall how the Lionsgate Blu (which I already sold off) looked, but have to say I really like what I see here!

How is the Umbrella encoding (on both discs) itself, especially compared to the Lionsgate? I'd assume both discs would at least have to be better than that.
