Default Should BDA grant Microsoft a Blu-ray License?

Rumors have already started that Microsoft is planing to offer a stand-alone Blu-Ray drive for existing Xbox 360 consoles and a new Xbox with internal Blu-Ray player.

It makes sense for Microsoft to join the Blu-Ray Association as one of the key selling points of the Sony’s PS3 is that it is an affordable Blu-Ray player. However, an Xbox with internal Blu-Ray player can hurt sales of PS3.

The only problem for Microsoft is that Sony is a key player in giving out Blu-Ray licenses and if it feels that granting a license to Microsoft would be detrimental to the success of PS3, it may refuse to grant such a license.

The Blu-Ray association has been very eager to grant licenses to many applicants (currently 180 members). However, no firm has done as much to damage the reputation and success of Blu-Ray. It is also common knowledge that Microsoft has already invested a lot of money and effort in Xbox Live Video service to enable Xbox users to download HD movies. Obviously they hope that digital downloads will play a big role in the future.

Should Sony and the BDA grant Microsoft a Blu-Ray license? Please vote and explain your reasons behind the vote.

Victory will not be complete until they do. By signing up for Blu-ray Microsoft will have gone under the yoke!!!

BDA needs Microsoft just as bad as Microsoft needs the BDA. Anyone who thinks otherwise should reconsider.

Yep. The more companies that go Blu, the better.

As much as I despise MS, it wouldn't be harmful for the company to join the BDA. Overall the company has other intentions so I don't know what they would really offer in support other than a possible add-on for the 360. We already have the computer manufacturers.

I voted yes, but it does not matter, the BDA cannot stop a company from joining.

While I personally think MS doesn't really deserve it, I think it could only benefit the BDA and the blu-ray standard to grant MS a license.

BS.

Much in the same way that Victory has been attained without Toshiba officially throwing in the towel, Microsoft {a SOFTWARE manufacturer} not getting on board won't prevent the victory from being final any more than not having certain Porn producers on board will prevent victory.

As for the original point of this thread, yes I think that the BDA should grant Microsoft a Blu-Ray license, if they don't they'll be denying themselves more money in royalties, and that would be bad business sense. {not to mention stupid}

It would be as asinine as not granting Toshiba a license when they come limping to the BDA for the right to make Blu-Ray players.

I REALLY hope they allow Microsoft to go Blu, it would be so nice watching BD's in Windows Media rather than InterVideo or s*cky Nero.

Give them a year to suck on the fact that they supported HD DVD and need to be punished, then maybe if they are good and eat all of their vegtables give them a license.
