It’s a German dub. Bootleg because the movie was confiscated by the German government in 1990 after a very short period of screenings in cinemas. So only bootlegs circulated in Germany without any official release. Turbine bought the license in 2012 and lifted the confiscation and did the first official release in 2016? with a new German dub. They included the bootleg dub probably as some sort of goodie or remembrance of past days.

No. Each variant has different limitation numbers. I think D is 666.

I like covers A, C and E the best but chose to go with A. It'll fit nice with this releases cover.

I thought about waiting for a Keep Case, but I wanted to order their new TCM Mediabook re-release because of the inclusion of a 130 minute discussion regarding the confiscation of the film in Germany (not English friendly from description), that was previously only included on their first TCM deluxe release. Since I don't got any of the two on UHD and to fit TCM I now also ordered the Breakfast Club Cover E

I hope you guys know that you receive bonus points at Turbine direct when you order. The amount is shown when you click your account then on the left side, or when you click your cart at the bottom. If you have bonus points, there's a slider on yellow background where you can add your bonus points to your order. For this order I used 2,50 EUR in points, and received 6,80 EUR in points for the order.

The Missus has been eyeing-up their 4K edition of The Frighteners, so every bonus helps!

It's Dolby Vision, and has 5.1 mixes as well as original 2.0.

You lose a few of the extras, but the DV layer isn't to be sniffed at.

Thank you, will be picking up. I have the Road House 4K mediabook from Germany too and was that one better than the VS?

Capelight's encoding can be a bit sloppy, but if you have Dolby Vision, it should give it some advantage over the VS by taming things.

Cover B sold out. With 333 copies it was also the lowest limitation of all the offered artworks.

Here in the States, Vinegar Syndrome already treated us to a damned excellent HDR10 transfer. Watching these discs virtually side-by-side, I can say the Turbine transfer is a strong contender for the top spot. Reportedly sourced from the MGM 4K master; looking at these transfers they’re neck and neck identical (I attempted a comparison video but the results didn’t really yield very different discernable results within the HDR10 grade). However, with Dolby Vision, the color grading, black levels, and contrast see some impressive refinements worth the attention. The first thing that struck me was the more intricate shadow gradience during the opening Leatherface assault on the two dudes in the car. That follows throughout the film. When Lefty buys the chainsaws the proprietor gradually turns on the shop lights, when we first see Chop Top at the radio station hiding in the red and green lights; there are notable improvements in color saturation and those deep inky black levels. Bitrate deviates slightly, sometimes higher, sometimes lower, but right around the same point sticking to a high 70mbps average with notable spikes into the 90s and beyond. Film grain is retained throughout without any signs of smoothing or unsightly edge enhancements. Like the Vinegar Syndrome release, the grain can be quite thick in spots, but for me that’s part of the charm of this one. The encoding is clean without any compression issues. It might be difficult to pick a side-by-side winner, but overall I really like what Turbine did with this one for another excellent release of this fan favorite.
And it seems the Bootleg dub was a fun addition to the reviewer:

Quote:
Interestingly on the German side, there are three audio options, one of which is listed as a DTS-HD MA 2.0 Bootleg Mix. I have no idea what that means exactly, I don’t know the release history of the film in Germany there might be alternate versions of the audio, but it’s an interesting listen. While the dialog is dubbed in German, the rest of the mix has slightly different sound effects and most notably different music cues. The difference in music I thought really shifted the tone into more straight horror pulling back some of the obvious humor. You can enjoy this version with the English subtitles so give it a try.

Received my order today. Wanted to watch the OG and 2 back to back on the weekend, but bad luck send me Cover B of TCM when I ordered Cover A. So I have to return it and wait for A, so probably next weekend then.
