Default TV vs UB820 upscaling

I have a Sony Bravia A95L, which does an excellent job of upscaling lower-quality media. Right now, I'm deciding whether to invest in a UB820 player or stick with creating MKV files and streaming them through my Shield.

If my TV already provides solid upscaling, would the UB820 still offer a noticeable improvement?

No. Its based on tech at least 7 years older than your TV (and Sony's are good at upscaling). The tone mapping will also be better than the optimiser in the UB820 as well.
If you want a disc player I'd just get the UB450 and save a few quid.

2nd this. Let the TV upscale the content.

I never understood the hype over "upscaling" players. I feel it's all a marketing tactic. Usually these players are decent at upscaling, but every TV I've owned does just as good of a job, if not better.
