It'll do as well as DTS:X and Sony 360 Reality Audio.

Which is companies will experiment with it, give up, and go/stay with Atmos.

Yup. They are not even rivals, they are DOA. Mark my words.

From what I've seen, Apple demands an Atmos deliverable with every new major album they're getting for Apple Music. Going to be hard to kick that gorilla out of the room.

Well… the broadcasting standard is going to be MPEG-H, which will rival atmos… so.

More competition is good and all, but let's be real here, name recognition or not, Dolby Atmos has won the immersive audio market, and I doubt that'll change. As PeterTHX mentioned, companies will play around with Eclipsa for a bit, and then eventually abandon it and return to Atmos, since again, Dolby has huge name recognition in the industry, plus many find Atmos to be a little more efficient and a bit easier to use than say DTS:X.

Broadcasting standard where? In the US and Canada, the standard is Dolby, not MPEG-H. MPEG-H are for Europe and Korea. MPEG-H has been Atmos’ “rival” for nearly a decade that also doesn’t go anywhere.

Really don`t care.
If it`s better than Atmos and DTS:X (which I highly doubt), good for them. But not gonna jump into a new tech anymore.

Same here. I’m at the age where I will sit out the first or second generation of tech before buying into them.

In the USA, ATSC 3.0 uses AC-4 as the audio standard which outputs as Dolby Atmos configuration.

I remember when MPEG2 audio was going to be the DVD standard in Europe, except they couldn't get it to work correctly. They ended up going with the "optional" AC-3 for the majority of audio tracks there. I also remember when VP9 was going to bury HEVC in the video world. Didn't happen.

This is why the quality varies so wildly too, the mixers who know what they're doing can only do so much (and they cost more). I'm seeing a few titles just credited to "Dolby Studios" also. A lot of these new mixers seem to be unaware of how useful the centre channel can be, relegating it to 99% unemployment.

The plus side is, you can downmix the Atmos to stereo where the stereo retail tracks have horrendously loud masters, just have to suffer the fidelity loss of 768 Kbps DD+JOC.

Listening to a lossy downmix of Slowdive's last album is a notably more enjoyable experience than the slammed retail digital mastering released to streaming platforms, CD and vinyl.
