First Look at ‘Duster’: J.J. Abrams, LaToya Morgan’s New Action Drama Series (Exclusive)
Abrams and Morgan detail the show's creation, alongside the first photos from their high-octane project starring Josh Holloway and Rachel Hilson: "Every episode feels like it's ending on a fun cliffhanger vibe that you get from serialized comics."

Default Episode One

I checked out the first episode of Duster on HBO Max, and I had a lot of fun with it. I've been a fan of Josh Holloway ever since I saw him play Sawyer on LOST, and I've always wondered why he didn't become a bigger star after that show. He's great as the lead in this show. He's such a charismatic actor you can't help but like him. I love the 1970s setting, and he fits perfectly in it. The female FBI agent who's the co-lead had me a little worried. I didn't really care for her character, but by the end of the episode I started warming up to her. The rest of the cast is solid. I'm a sucker for crime stories, so the story they set up definitely has me intrigued. Looking forward to the next episode and spending more time with these characters.

Solid episode. The story in this episode was pulpy fun. I liked that this revolved around Jim trying to steal the blue suede shoes of Elvis down in Palm Springs for a gangster named "Sunglasses" who happens to be obsessed with the king.
[Show spoiler]I was pretty shocked that the crooked cop actually lived from the gunshots when Sunglasses shot him. Now he knows that Jim was behind Sunglasses coming after him though. The death of Sunglasses in the bowling alley was brutal. I’m kind of bummed out that he got killed so quickly as I thought he was a fun character. It also seems like there is a bigger conspiracy surrounding the death of Jim’s brother and that mystery man at the end of the episode.
The production design and overall look of this show is just fantastic. I really like these characters. Definitely looking forward to the next episode.

Default Episode Three

An ok episode. We finally got to spend a more significant amount of time with Keith David, who plays the crime boss Saxton. I’ve always been a fan of Keith David, and he’s definitely chewing the scenery and having fun with the role. We did learn some vital information when Saxton revealed to Jim
[Show spoiler] that he knew Paris Gilford, a bomb maker that specializes in C4. It seems pretty clear that Saxton is probably behind the death of Jim’s brother Joey. I guy will find out in the next episode since Jim calls Paris and tells her he is going to need the same equipment she supplied for the Joey Ellis job.
It was a bit of a filler episode, but I enjoyed it.

I have this on the list to view at some point. The trailer didn't wow me but I am still interested.

Well, we're halfway through the season and what a fun episode. Car chase, fight scene, and some knife action. They tied up the loose end about Jim
[Show spoiler]breaking the blood pact he signed. I really liked the assassin, Enrique the Blade, who was sent after Jim. He was such a fun character. I wish he was in the episode more. Their fight scene was great. It was cool to see them stop fighting when Jim was about to hit him with a bottle of whiskey, and they decided to have a drink together, talk, and ultimately team up against those guys who stole Howard Hughes' car. It was so badass when they lined the cars up and Enrique threw the knife at the bad guy's head. It would be cool if we got to see his character again, but I think it's just a one-off appearance.
Really excited to see the next episode. I wish more people would give this show a chance. I hope it doesn't get canceled.

This is a pretty fun show. It isn't True Detective S1 good, but it's a pretty well written show for the most part. Can do without Duster's baby momma's side story, just doesn't fit, but outside of that, not bad.

I was very disappointed with this episode. The writing was rough and felt very forced with awkward modern sensibilities. Hopefully this was just one stumble. Besides a few scenes, this really didn't progress the plot much either. A good stinger at the end of the episode though.

A return to form. This was a fun episode. I do wish they would spread the action out a bit more and not save it for the end of the episodes. The
[Show spoiler]undercover operation with the Russians was pretty tense. It definitely looked like it was going to go sideways but turned out to be a success by a narrow margin. I was a bit shocked by the fact that it seemed like Jim and Nina might be falling for each other at the end. Didn’t see that coming.
Hopefully the show can keep the momentum and finish strong with the next couple of episodes.

I was expecting a bit more from the penultimate episode, but I still had fun with it. I'm a bit nervous that the finale is just going to end on a cliffhanger. I like the show a lot, but I'm not sure how it's doing as far as viewership numbers and it would really suck to not have any closure. Hopefully we get a fantastic season finale and a renewal for season 2.

This isn't a great show but it's fun with the time period setting and how it doesn't take itself too seriously.

I noticed that the fabrics for the garments are natural and not the synthetic that’s more typical of the 1970s. Keith David’s suits look like they were made by a Savile Row tailor called Edward Sexton, who often makes suits like that to this very day.

The shirts are probably made by Anto in Beverly Hills, California, as they still often make those style shirts to this very day. Lindman NYC probably made the ties, as they makes those styles of ties often.

And Keith David’s shoes are probably made by Jermyn Street boot and shoe maker John Lobb, Savile Row boot and shoe maker George Cleverley or Savile Row boot and shoe maker Gaziano & Girling. These three boot and shoe makers often make those styles of boots and shoes.

Exciting season finale with some shocking reveals. I definitely wasn't expecting
[Show spoiler]Keith David to die, and I was honestly bummed out by that because he was such a fun character. A very sad reveal that Izzy has cancer and might not live much longer, so Jim will need to be around to take care of Luna. The biggest shocker of all was that Jim's brother is still alive, and revealed to be the mysterious Xavier. If we ever get a second season I’ll be very curious to see who they cast as Jim’s Brother.
All in all, it was an enjoyable season of television, and I'm going to miss watching it each week. I just wish HBO Max promoted it more. While I hope this gets renewed for a second season, I have doubts as it just doesn't seem like many people watched it. Hopefully, now that all the episodes are out, people will binge it.

Favorite song from the season finale.

Josh Holloway used to look a bit like Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, but not anymore.

’Duster’ Canceled By HBO Max After One Season

Quote:
After a five-year build-up, it was a short run for Bad Robot’s 1970s crime drama Duster as HBO Max is not proceeding with a second season of the series from J.J. Abrams and LaToya Morgan. The news comes less than a week after the Season 1 finale debuted on the platform.

It is not entirely surprising because Duster, starring Josh Holloway and Rachel Hilson, wasn’t able to generate a lot of buzz and viewer interest. Those who tuned in, largely liked what they saw — Duster is averaging 92% among critics and 83% among general viewers on Rotten Tomatoes. The series from Warner Bros. and Abrams’ studio-based Bad Robot also remains in the daily Top 10 on HBO Max but it has not been able to get into the Nielsen Top 10 for streaming originals and barely cracked Luminate’s list of Top 50 streaming originals in its fourth week at the last #50 spot.
What a bummer. Sadly I saw this coming a while ago. They sure didn’t wait long to cancel it. Well I guess we’ll never know what happened to Jim’s brother. Such a shame. It was a fun show.

Is there at least a satisfying ending or do we get the usual cliffhanger nonsense.
