Default Adolescence (Netflix 2025)

British crime drama divided in 4 episodes, centered around a 13 year old boy arrested for the murder of his classmate. Very powerful with a phenomenal performance by Owen Cooper as the accused. Each episode is shot in one take.

Stephen Graham, who plays the father of the accused boy, also co-produced and co-wrote the series, based on a real life event. It is intended to ask questions and expose the possible reasons behind a rise of knife stabbing incidents among British adolescents.

One of the best, and important dramas in many, many years. Absolute top tier performances from everyone involved.

Just finished this up. This was an incredible, powerful series. Some of the best acting I’ve seen, especially from first timer Owen Cooper. Insane that these episodes were all single takes. Easily the best drama of 2025 so far, and gonna be difficult to top.

This isn’t really a spoiler, but I’m putting in tags in case you wanna be surprised…
[Show spoiler]At the end of episode 2, the camera has been following along through a school and outside of the school, then goes into an airborne drone shot for a few minutes only to come back down to ground level. For the life of me, I could figure out how the did it. I finally saw a behind the scenes and even though it gave away the magic, I was still all the more impressed.

I really liked episodes 1 and 4, top acting. The kid was amazing throughout and Stephen Graham can do no wrong, his face reactions are superb.

If Netflix have any sense, they will tie down Stephen Graham and Jack Thorne to a multi year deal.

25 million views in U.K. now, well deserved.

Episode 3 and 4 is absolute standout drama, will take some beating this year.

Stephen Graham has been a favourite of mine for well over a decade, the rest of country is catching onto him now.

A lot of your tv is so much better than ours. Hard to compare with Broadchurch, Luther, Happy Valley, Inside Man, etc. Great stuff

Life On Mars and This Is an England is ace as well.

You guys have some good shows though, I loved X Files for example. Also, the original Roseanne.

Watched the first episode a second time. The one shot thing is so impressive. The logistics required to do this is amazing to me. Can you imagine the pressure on the actors to get their lines right?

They get close to the end and someone fumbles....

Just finished it.

Stephen Graham is a force of nature and should be given more opportunities in the industry.

I reckon that they've prepared options, if someone gets into trouble with remembering their lines. There could be an assistant behind the camera holding up a tablet that constantly displays the dialogue of the scene in big writing as a backup. I'd also think that the actors have a bit of wiggle room to improvise their lines in the moment and the crew will just keep shooting.

Very impressive and I'm glad it wasn't used as a gimmick. It built tension and almost forces you to watch the episodes uninterrupted. You're drawn into the scenes with the characters, also thanks to the excellent camerawork.

Call me a biased Brit but I truly think our actors are the best in the world.
