Exclamation DOGMA: 25th Anniversary Celebration

There’s a great new official DOGMA trailer that’s been posted today on Kevin Smith’s YouTube channel
, which I’d recommend checking out. Although as it’s April Fool’s day I’m ambivalent as to whether it’s real and what this might mean… It is advertising a new rerelease for the 25th Anniversary. I think that it is perhaps only being rereleased in the US, if so for me in the UK is disappointing, as I’m a fan of this crazy awesome comedy and I’d love to watch it again in my local cinema.

The trailer description reads:
Dogma: Resurrected, A 25th Anniversary Celebration with Kevin Smith hits theaters June 5th 2025.

Could this mean that they have sorted out the rights issues? The Lord promises that those who earnestly seek Her will receive answers, find what they're looking for, and have doors opened to them, in prayer and searching for the Lord’s most merciful help, we can find the solutions we need (jest). We may, at long last see a new physical release, maybe? A glorious 4K, for we can only pray!

The rights issues were settled

Smith is just so fascinating. Did Zack and Miri/Jersey Girl break him that much? The current guy could NEVER make Chasing Amy.

On a reddit AMA, Kevin has CONFIRMED a 4k release, and says "it'll be packed"

Here's the direct quote from Kevin Smith:

Also later on, he hinted at the possibility of doing Clerks II next year.

Man, they have special anniversaries, theatrical rereleases and reunions for anything these days. Not that this is a bad movie.

Caught the re-release last night. I thought the restoration looked excellent. There were only two scenes that looked pretty rough (when Loki and Bartleby arrive at Mooby HQ and when Bethany and the gang arrive at the church near the end). I don't know if the original elements were damaged or if there was a projection issue during those two scenes or if that's just how it's always looked and I never noticed when I watched it on home TVs, but it looked like it was projecting at 240p for those two (brief) moments.

Still, I'm excited this is getting the 4K treatment, even if I'd rather a standard release over Smith's teased steelbook. There was a healthy number of people in the theater too, which was nice, even if the crowd itself was kind of dull. Oh, well. I was pretty much laughing the entire time while everyone except the middle aged woman next to me was dead silent for most of the film.

While I'd normally semi-agree with you here, I think it's important to recognize the significance of this and why Smith may want to go out of his way to celebrate Dogma specifically considering it's been trapped in legal paperwork hell for god knows how long. I'm not a huge fan of a lot of Smith's work, and his inability to move on from certain ideas can be annoying, but I don't think there's any denying his 90s work was special in its own way, and Dogma in particular, in my opinion at least, is his magnum opus. If any of his films were to get the red carpet anniversary treatment, I'm glad it was this one.

Saw it today at Alamo Drafthouse.

I've always thought the film had a bit of a dull overall look w/ it. Which is weird cuz Chasing Amy has nice look to it overall. Dogma just looks a tad flat to me.

But it did look better to me than previous times I've seen it.

I always remember this thing being so good w/ the dialogue and how the actors played certain ways at times. But every time I capture it, I always think it's a miracle that a thing like this ever existed. It's just so unique.

My audience was good w/ it. They laughed and chuckled. Seeing it after all this time it's also different than say seeing it like 10 years ago. Carlin and Rickman being gone got a beloved chuckle when they came on. I ****ing loved this movie so much.
