Excellent news! I literally just posted in the Criterion thread in the main Blu-ray forum that this was the title I was most hoping for.

If it doesn’t include the original WB opening studio logo I will take it, stomp it and use the debris to send thru a high velocity industrial fan into the faces of everyone at Criterion

Surprising that it’s another new restoration just like Thief. I wonder if they re-did it solely to add a "native" HDR grade. In any way, most wonderful news.

Does this mean it’s not a true 4K scan, or just an older scan?

That leaves Lolita & Eyes Wide Shut for needing 4Ks regarding Kubrick.

Should be a new scan, with the inclusion of HDR/DV.

Why shouldn’t it be a true 4K scan? The BD was also from a 4K scan but apparently someone at Criterion/WB decided to do it again and re-do the restoration and grading. It may be overkill but Thief absolutely benefited from this. I’ve no reason to believe that it won’t be the same here.

Good, for a moment I was interpreting it as they just used the old scan and just added HDR.

While much better than whatever came before, Blah-ray mentioned that the mono still sounds a bit too muffled than it should, so they probably did apply some filtering after all. Of course it would be wonderful if they rolled that back for the 4k. I’ve had the same hopes for Some Like it Hot but that one’s already confirmed to be the old one.

Why would that be a bad thing? The “old scan” was done on one of the best quality scanners around (Lasergraphics Director) and done at 16-bit, so even if it’s being reused, that wouldn’t be a problem in the slightest.
