So in 2023 we moved to a new town and a new home. As we were doing the walkthrough on one of the homes, trying to decide whether to buy, the tour ended in the basement.
Upon entering the room, I first saw the theatre couches for four people. I thought "that's nice" when I learned that they were included with the home. But that thought was instantaneously archived when I turned the corner and saw something else that was apparently included in the sale. It was the 9 x 8 foot home theatre screen. "Wow," I thought. But it got even better when the realtor told me that the 7 speaker Polk Audio surround sound system, the Sony receiver, and the projector were also included in the price! I happily bought the house. |

Great that it was included in the house price too!
Did you have any prior experience in the home theater realm? I've always wondered if people that buy systems left by the previous owner would have problems getting things up and running again. Happy viewing |

It's ironic to me that sometimes a pool or a home theater can reduce the resale value of a home whereas they are some of the reasons I love to be home.
I guess if your into it you may have built it differently and if your not into it then it's a waste of space. That's the only reasoning I can see. Of course a pool is a liability safety wise. Last edited by bhampton; 07-25-2025 at 11:22 AM. |

I never thought that they would diminish the value of a house, but I guess your points are valid.
Add to that a certain amount of time and money to maintain a pool, and a certain amount of time and money to get a home theater running again, and it's just dead space to most. A normal finished room, boring though it may be, is easier to convert to whatever the buyer wants. |

Great story, OP!
While nowhere near what you got, I remember still being equally stoked when the house I bought back in 2006 (and still live in) was pre-wired for in-wall speakers and had rear surrounds already installed. I stayed with in-walls over the years (when tweaked right they work perfectly fine), although I eventually upgraded to better in-walls with a rotatable tweeter, and I also to re-located one of the speakers as it was about 8" out of position. It has been nice not having any exposed wires, unlike my last house where it was exposed. |
