United Kingdom Heart of Dragon (1985) Deluxe Edition 4K UHD (88 Films)

Order: 88 Films - Amazon - Zavvi - HMV - Rarewaves
Release date: 29th September 2025

Quote:
World-famous for their action and derring-do, old friends Jackie Chan and Sammo Hung teamed up for a film that shows there's much more to them than brawling.

Jackie plays a good-hearted cop looking after his learning-disabled brother Danny, played by Sammo, but doesn't always succeed in keeping him out of trouble. When Danny is taken as a hostage, his brother will risk everything - his career and even his life –-to rescue him, throwing it down as only Jackie Chan can.

Made the same year as Police Story, Heart of Dragon was a change of pace for the great action artists, giving them a chance to show of their acting chops as well as their stunt skills - even if they don't ignore the latter! 88 Films are proud to present this Worldwide 4K premiere of a Hong Kong classic.

No way! I have a bit of a soft spot for this film. Sammo's performance is incredibly misguided, but I do think it has its heart in the right place and is actually quite touching at points. The real star of the show is the action pieces. Some of Jackie's best. So excited that this is getting the UHD treatment.

I would suggest for a HK film of this vintage his performance and the portrayal of the character in the script is extremely sensitive and empathetic.

Eureka may have the rights to the film but just like Project A 1&2 i don't think Eureka are interested releasing wheels on meals in 4K UHD.

Bro, no way. I am more than happy with my Arrow set and this became one of my favorite Sammo films after seeing it, but I think this may be the first UHD upgrade I skip, it's way too expensive now and I need to stick to buying films for the first time. Very nice cover though. This is a very well done film, it's funny, touching, good stunts and action, the Jackie/Dick Wei fight near the end is one of the highest energy fights in any HK film. Before I even saw this I thought Sammo was doing some sort of Simple Jack impression but he's not, it's pretty accurate and nothing in it is in bad taste. The kids in this are also hilarious, especially the fat kid who makes Sammo pretend to be his dad at school. Japanese cut is a must but with the HK music track. Maybe if Arrow does this later in the US I will think about punting for an upgrade.

I do wonder why Eureka appear uninterested in revisiting these movies in 4K. It's clearly working well and making money for 88...

The Eureka Meals disc is already a 5/5 presentation not sweating an upgrade on that, same with Armour of God, yet I have not owned Operation Condor yet so gladly bought it, some of these are becoming a stretch for me with only a video upgrade on ones I already own. I like to collect smarter, not harder. Glad I had yet to buy Project A. But I bought the Arrow Heart of Dragon in 2024, flipping would just be stupid for me. I am holding out for things like SITES and Drunken Master, or first time films Who Am I/Thunderbolt. Exact reason I didn't take the Eastern Condors Criterion bait. As it is guess I will officially stop buying any 88 Films Blu rays now.

For what it's worth I doubt most of their output will see 4K upgrades in the near future. Jackie Chan and Jet Li are guaranteed sellers. Even a masterpiece like Eastern Condors only has a 2K master.

I'd rather take a standard edition at this point. Space is becoming a big issue for me. Even regular UK releases are bad enough since I can only fit 11 in the same space as 15 Nordic or US releases, but each special edition equals two regular UK movies.

Same. I love these 88 boxes, but I basically sold all my VinSyn VSUs for space and now have about 10+ 88 Films limiteds taking it back up again. I probably will not upgrade anything I already own in standard plain case/slip from Arrow/Eureka or 88.

Has it been confirmed that Eureka still have the UK rights?

Maybe 88 Films will get the UK rights soon enough and release them in 4K?

I do wish these 88 Films 4k upgrades included some new extra features though (like their Project A set did), this one does include a new audio commentary, but unfortunately I personally I never listen to those so there's less incentive for me to upgrade.

Wait, does the Arrow version have the hybrid English dub/ original audio for the extended version also?

I have the Arrow release but other than the 4K wondering if I really need to double dip.

It does. Arrow also has the Frank Djeng & FJ DeSanto audio commentary which this 4K and the previous UK Blu-ray doesn't have.

The David West audio commentary seems to be the only new addition to the 4K.
