United Kingdom Hackers (1995) Deluxe Edition 4K UHD (88 Films)

Order: 88 Films - Amazon.co.uk - Zavvi - HMV - Rarewaves
Release date: 22nd September

Quote:

A perfect time-capsule of its era, Hackers is a movie which manages to bring together a cast who were all on the verge of stardom and created a cult favourite. Dade (Jonny Lee Miller), Kate (Angelina Jolie) and Cereal (Matthew Lillard) are a cool, tech-savvy set of “Hackers” who stumble across a criminal plan which is designed to use a computer virus to capsize a fleet of oil tankers. Will this crack team of nerds stop the disaster? With a cool, cyber-smart script and a magnificent electronic score, this is a cool film which plays like a natural successor to the 1983 computer thriller War Games.

Curious why you'd double-dip here? Just for different cover art? It does have a commentary track that SF doesn't have, and adds an Atmos track, but it seems strange to spend money for another release when there's so many other movies that money could be put towards, especially from you who seems to be generally against double-dips, and talks about spending money on movies quite often.

Yeah I'll likely be double dipping for this if I can get it on sale. I need that Atmos and commentary track.

I've tried to like this movie because of the cast, but it's never really hit.

Did they really re-scan the film for 4K even though there's an existing 4K master from the negative done not that long ago, or are they being loose with their definition of how "brand new" it really is? I assume it's the same scan as before.

Sorry if I've been misleading with some of my comments regarding double dips. I actually have a decent collection of doubles. I'm one of those collectors who appreciates artwork and nice packaging

I'd say for all those reasons you listed + the added feature of watching the presentation in Dolby Vision, I'll likely double-dip here.

I’d be surprised if this is a new scan. The master as presented by Shout is drop-dead gorgeous and still one of my favorite remasters I’ve seen. The grain is so very fine, courtesy of the great DP Andrzej Sekuła, who also shot Reservoir Dogs and Pulp Fiction with the slowest film stock of the time and hence that most beautiful, fine grain.

It’d be wonderful if 88 handed this one over to Fidelity in Motion to ensure that nothing gets lost in translation, particularly as they’re likely putting out the film’s definitive edition for quite some time.

One of my all-time favorite films. Watched it as a kid and it changed my whole life trajectory. Love that 88 is including a director's commentary, they are becoming my favorite alternate label. I've got the US steelbook but am definitely picking this up too. So excited for this release.

I need more info before committing

Hilarious that it's gone from 'they couldn't find the 5.1 track' to a full-blown Atmos remix in a few years

Is 88 films usually the last to put up the preorder? I would prefer to order direct from them

Yeah, they tend not to sell stuff directly until a couple of weeks before release date.

OMG, knew it, vindication for passing on the slipless Shout. Nice looking package. Atmos on this should be cooking.

Are you having trouble reading my posts, or just understanding them? I've said repeatedly that people have options of choosing which they prefer, and said ultimately it would be the best of both worlds to own both. That's because they are completely different transfers, so hardly even comparable to this anyway.

it's honestly getting a little creepy how you stalk me though.

This is me apparently cheerleading the Criterion release

Your constant gotcha attempts and snide attacks would be cute if they weren't so embarrassing. Maybe sit the next few out?
