Nah, I would agree. Rebirth misinterprets the JP formula as being a kaiju monster movie by way of King Kong, when it should be an Irwin Allen disaster movie crossed with Boys' Own adventure. So for me it never really pushes my buttons, and I have quite a low bar to enjoy these. Dominion is probably the lesser of the World trilogy but I still really enjoyed it, whereas Rebirth drifts further and further away from a Jurassic movie as it goes on and ends up as a generic Godzilla sequel. And it has a random Final Destination inspired opening sequence for some reason?
It's not awful - and I really like the early 'Jurassic Jaws' section at sea that should have been the centre of the whole thing! - but it's my second least favourite of the seven films, after JP3 (which I know has its fans but I can barely sit through). |
