Default Baskin (2015) 4K UHD coming from Severin

Quote:
BASKIN

THE WORLDWIDE UHD PREMIERE WITH 3+ HOURS OF SPECIAL FEATURES

Anyone who’s seen it knows it’s “a shocking tale straight out of hell” (Bloody Disgusting). Those yet to experience it “may forget it’s only a movie” (rogerebert.com). Either way, nothing will prepare you for the “genuinely nightmarish and horribly beautiful” (Time Out) debut feature from Turkish writer/director Can Evrenol presented in UHD for the first time: When a 5-man police squad is lured into a realm where torment, depravity and damnation are the only law, they’ll become prisoners of an abyss from which there may be no mortal escape. This “orgiastic Black Mass of stylized revulsion” (The Hollywood Reporter) now hits harder than ever in 4K, with 3+ hours of Special Features that include a behind-the-scenes documentary, 10-years-later retrospective, Evrenol’s original short film and much more.

Special Features for BASKIN:

UHD:
• Audio Commentary With Director Can Evrenol
• Original Theatrical Trailer
• U.S. Trailer

BLU-RAY:
• Audio Commentary With Director Can Evrenol
• BASKIN 10 Years Later
• The Making Of BASKIN
• Theatrical Trailer
• U.S. Trailer

Can Evrenol Short Films
• BASKIN (Original Short Film, 2013)
• TO MY MOTHER AND FATHER (2010)
• MY GRANDMOTHER (2008)
• THE CHEST (2007)
• SCREWS (2006)

Feature Specs for BASKIN:
• Aspect Ratio: 2.35:1
• Runtime: 97 mins
• Audio: Turkish 5.1, Turkish Stereo
• Subtitles: English
• Region: A/B/C

Eh, never heard of this. Maybe blind buy a copy when it's on sale. I only carefully blind buy newer films these days and only if I'm vaguely familiar with them.

Hmm, interesting.

I did enjoy the film when I watched it a few years ago and I already own the UK Severin BD. If this was just a 4K upgrade I might not bother, but the new features make it far more tempting, especially the director's commentary. He has a YouTube channel where he talks about physical media (one of us!) in Turkish, but I'm assuming (hoping) the commentary will be in English as I've seen him speak it in interviews.

The fact they did release this in the UK on BD makes me hopeful I won't have to import it, but I'm not seeing any announcement beyond the US one as of yet...

I'm going to preorder the piss out of this dirty little mess. It's like someone made a mish-mash of Hellraiser, Pan's Labyrinth, Salo the 120 Days, S.W.A.T. Firefight, and Hostel. There's nothing I don't like about it.

It's worth it for the musical sing-along interlude, alone. So catchy.

Was going to hold off on an immediate purchase but the behind-the-scenes book sold me on pre-ordering.

There wasn't anything I didn't like about it either. I don't recall the musical number at all, but there's actually more chance I'd remember it had I not liked it! The only quibble I had was that I could have gone for even more depravity, but that says more about me than it does the film itself.

Who can say no to completely rando police-van karaoke smack in the middle of a seriously twisted horror flick? Things majorly go to crapsville for our heroes shortly after this....You never knew what was going to happen next in the zany string of atrocities unfolding, chock-full of nightmarish imagery. This was perhaps the only smidge of momentary levity in the whole film, making it all seem even more disjointed, out-of-place and surreal.

Thanks for the link but I'll wait till I actually get the film before experiencing it again!

Did you go in for the signed book?

I wonder when Severin will start shipping these babies. I have a huge horse-choking order in with them from that summer sale event.

Aaaaannnnnd….shipped from Severin!

Fingers crossed that Severin gave this uhd a serviceable or better encode. I’ll be dropping it in the player right after it lands on my porch.
