I grabbed the BFI edition a few years ago. Thought the transfer was excellent. Thought the film was excellent. Glad to see it's getting a US release.

Look how beautiful that is!

Was this a title that KLSC was releasing on Blu-ray and decided not to release on 4K for whatever reason? Or am I thinking of a similar film or something else starring Caine, from another studio…?

Agreed. Own the box set, well worth poking one’s bugle.

Yeah, same here with the BFI purchase. Unless this has some new extras or a better transfer, this will be an easy pass for me. The BFI release is simply outstanding.

Directed by Mike Hodges
Two-time Oscar® winner* Michael Caine rips into the role of Jack Carter in this legendary crime thriller marked by “brutal and gamy plot turns, excellent direction (and) a fast-moving screenplay” (Variety)! London mob strong-arm Carter is drawn north to Newcastle by his brother’s death-which he doesn’t believe is accidental. All to familiar with the ways of the mob, Carter single-mindedly, and single-handedly-tears into the local crime syndicate with terrifying precision and cold enjoyment, hunting the identity of the killer and then the killer himself. But what Carter doesn’t know is that corruption within the mob is widespread, high-ranked and may hit closer to home than he thinks! “The pace is relentless” lauded to L.A. Times, “and picks up momentum like a freight train barreling downgrade!” “An instant classic” agreed The New York Times. Presented here as meticulously restored and remastered in 2022 by the British Film Institute, with the added benefit of 4K resolution and High Dynamic Range, Caine’s masterful turn in GET CARTER is more exciting than ever.

Likely a FiM encode, but so is the BFI release. It's also missing a few of the extras from that.

I too, imported the BFI 4K some time back. It'll be interesting to see which turns out better, if there's any real difference at all.

This looks just like the BFI disc feature for feature, or pretty close. Nice cover. Might be worth double dipping.

If FiM is encoding this, I'll sell off my BFI BD (while holding onto the LE slipbox and tat) and get this. I prefer dual editions and would give up a few extras for that, with the benefit of the WAC's included BD being Region A friendly (even though I am Region Free).
