Sony Pictures Becoming Led Zeppelin 4K UHD (2025) (Sony Pictures Classics)

Sony Pictures Classics will be releasing the documentary Becoming Led Zeppelin (2025) on 4K UHD on September 30th! This is going to be a Deluxe Collector's Edition release with a Steelbook inside a slipcase, as well as several physical extras. I'll update the post with links, and extras as they come in.

Quote:
The individual journeys of the four members of the band, as they move through the music scene of the 1960s, playing small clubs throughout Britain and performing some of the biggest hits of the era, until their meeting in the summer of 1968 for a rehearsal that changes their lives forever.

Glad SPC haven't given up on the 4K/BD physical market just yet. Although I wonder if it has to do with the band's recognition.

I pre-ordered it to lock it in, but jeez, $74.99. I don't know if I can justify that one. I watched it already and it's great, but this thing better have a ton of extras.

Yeah, it's pretty expensive. Amazon usually starts with the MSRP, but tends to drop eventually, especially when another retailer has it for lower, and they match it. I think we'll probably see this in the $50-60 range elsewhere.

Waiting for a standard edition.

Not sure if DNR is going to be a problem on this one.

Pre-ordered just in case, will cancel once someone other than amazon gets the pre-orders up.

So glad I didn't see the BD import first because this news is exciting that they're actually doing a 4k!!

Was hoping for a larger poster instead of useless little cards, but at least my husband can display the picks. (when did studios start wanting posters back after the showings (or have two different theaters told us the same lie hahaha))

Loved this.

I was going to get the Blu-ray (Italy, Australia or Nordic) but I held out.

I wonder why it's disappeard from Amazon? It's still hanging around https://www.hdmoviesource.com/Becomi...HD-p/16935.htm That's not a recommendation for that store (or their pricing).

Sony own some rights in the UK too.

Default The Making of Becoming Led Zeppelin: Unofficial Guide to Unpacking the Untold Story

The Making of Becoming Led Zeppelin: An Unofficial Guide to Unpacking the Untold Story of Rock’s Greatest Rise

Phew.

Few bands have ever captured the imagination of music lovers quite like Led Zeppelin. Their explosive sound, larger-than-life personas, and groundbreaking influence reshaped rock forever. When news broke that Becoming Led Zeppelin, the first official, band-approved documentary was in the works, fans around the world eagerly awaited what promised to be the definitive film on the band’s origins. But despite its highly anticipated premiere, the film has remained shrouded in mystery, leaving many questions unanswered.

In The Making of Becoming Led Zeppelin, we take a deep dive into the long and winding journey of this elusive documentary. From director Bernard MacMahon’s visionary approach to the film’s stunning archival footage and exclusive interviews, this unofficial guide unpacks everything that makes Becoming Led Zeppelin a cinematic event like no other.

Explore the stories behind the legendary band’s early days, Jimmy Page’s rise as a session prodigy, Robert Plant’s journey to becoming the voice of a generation, John Paul Jones’s quiet genius, and John Bonham’s thunderous drumming that shook the world. Delve into the filmmaking choices that set this documentary apart, the cinematic strengths and weaknesses that shaped its reception, and the puzzling delays that have kept it from a wide release.

Whether you're a die-hard Zeppelin fan or a documentary enthusiast, The Making of Becoming Led Zeppelin offers an in-depth, immersive look at a film that has already become the stuff of rock legend. This is more than a guide, it’s an exploration of the myths, the music, and the mystery that continue to define Led Zeppelin’s enduring legacy.

I think I'd like that too. Only 62 pages though so it sounds more like a Blu-ray booklet.

Anyone read it?

I did not like this documentary.
I have read dozens of articles, and many many books on this band (and learned to play almost every song note for note from the first 6 albums), and really this is like watching a lengthened PR piece meant to be digested in 5 minutes or less to promote the happy go-lucky elements of a band as they announce their new product.
Way too many lengthy musical breaks, too, which I felt slowed down the pacing and made this puff-piece documentary too long.

5/10

But if you know nothing about Led Zeppelin, then maybe one would get more out of it.

62 pages, "independently published", no reviews... Sounds like some print on demand AI crap.

Edit: forgot to hit the quote button...

It was once always like that: studios send out the one sheets for free as marketing items. They don't want someone else selling what they made available free--they want to sell their own versions themselves.

Back in the days when films were shuttled from one theater to another once or twice a week the poster was folded up and included in the film cans for the next theater to use.

It's been a long time, though. One sheets that were marked "Property of National Screen Service" (the primary theatrical promotional distributor) disappeared decades ago when NSS folded. For awhile posters were shared with video stores and they weren't expected back. But now video stores have disappeared too. So perhaps the distributors are going back to their roots of owning the one sheets again and wanting them back.

Interesting, locally most places would give them away after showings. Wonder if they got in trouble for doing that? One guy we chatted with years ago said his boss just let him keep all the old posters and he had quite the pile of them he said. They did also own the video store across the street from the theater, so maybe that's how, maybe they were supposed to go to the store and went out to people instead. The video store did sell them for $1-2, they'd roll them up and have them behind the counter. Every week we'd go in to see if they had anything we wanted.

No idea. Only thing I can assume is Sony wants Amazon to wait until they officially announce it.
