USA Dangerous Animals 4K UHD (2025) (Shudder Films)

Shudder and IFC Films will be releasing Dangerous Animals (2025) on 4K on October 7th. It will come in a Steelbook that will be exclusive to Amazon, at least for the time being.

Already got the UK 4K ordered. For anyone that's curious, it doesn't look like the digital version has HDR, and Shudder never includes it on their 4Ks, so it's safe to order this steelbook vs the UK release.

UK edition drops a month earlier and I haven't seen any specs for it yet either. I imagine it'll also be SDR.

HDR10 (perhaps HDR10+, I am not sure) as well as Dolby Vision are now available on certain platforms.

EDiT : No Dolby Atmos.

Damn, that's weird. I rented it yesterday on Prime and it was SDR, and still is. It's also still SDR on Fandango at Home. Where are you seeing this? It's a solid movie. I really enjoyed it and hope the UK disc has some sort of HDR included.

Wow. I really want this. I wanted to see Dangerous Animals at my local theater, but it never played there or anywhere else further away. I have seen the trailer, and just recently, a 17 minute recap/review on YouTube. So now I'm really sold on this. Plus there's been many positive reviews everywhere like this one:

I have seen several movies about killer sharks, and I have seen several movies about serial killers, but I have not seen many about serial killers who murder their victims by using killer sharks. Dangerous Animals, a 2025 survival horror feature directed by Sean Byrne, is the cinematic mashup that the world has always wanted, but never deserved. If, like me, you watched the brutally sadistic 2005 Australian Outback thriller, Wolf Creek, and thought to yourself that the story would have benefitted greatly from the inclusion of sharks, then you will likely consider this film to be a dream come true.

If asked whether she would prefer to encounter a man or a shark if she were alone in the ocean, then Zephyr, a toughened world-weary American surfer girl and loner played by Hassie Harrison, would probably choose the shark. Unfortunately for her, she will soon meet both, thanks to Tucker, an unkempt, but seemingly-charming boat captain, played by Jai Courtney, who has a bad habit of taking tourists on shark cage expeditions and then returning to shore without them.

This Australian-American co-production may not be a particularly unpredictable endeavor, but it nonetheless maintains a nail-bitingly suspenseful edge with its depiction of a scrappy and resourceful heroine who improvises creative ways to escape, only to have the rug pulled out from under her time and time again before she can reach salvation. Jai Courtney's antagonist, in turn, exudes just the right combination of meticulously calculating intellect and maniacal sociopathy. Imagine if Robert Shaw's Quint from the 1975 Steven Spielberg blockbuster, Jaws, wanted to feed us to the fishes instead of saving us from one.

Dangerous Animals pulls no punches with regard to its violence, so squeamish prospective viewers out there should consider themselves warned. For the rest of us, however, this rugged outing provides an excellently riveting slice of summer season entertainment. Hassie Harrison's Zephyr may only give one thumbs-up to this movie, but I myself award it an enthusiastic two thumbs up.
The opening line of the above review, which I bolded, really sealed the deal for me. Thank you, The Great Owl.

And here's a mock trailer by one of the stars, Jai Courtney:

With everything I've seen and read, I feel like Yes I Need This!

It will be a blind buy for me, and I rarely do blind buys.

Hopefully the 4K UHD disc, when it’s released in October, will be a lot better.

Another member (Black Mamba) reached out to Diabolik DVD and confirmed this 4K Steelbook will be an Amazon exclusive. The same thing happened with Clownin in a Cornfield, which Diabolik said is an Amaazon exclusive until the end of the year.

The SB is now live at Amazon:

Yeah, I’m a little anxious about Amazon being able to deliver a Steelbook undamaged. They so often use those bubble wrap thin plastic envelopes or sometimes a thin cardboard envelope.

I’m hoping, since this an exclusive of their’s, they’ll use corrugated cardboard boxes for shipping instead.

I srreamed this a couple of weeks back and was very impressed with what I thought was a compressed DD+ ATMOS track, turns out it was a vanilla 5.1 track and my new receiver was upmixing it to a rather impressive 9.3.6 channels with lively use of both the height and wide speakers...

I can't imagine how much better this ride could be with a full bitrate object based track!... fingers

I'm keeping my fingers crossed for Atmos and at least standard HDR on the UK 4K I preordered a month back. Shudder never includes any bells and whistles on their US 4Ks, so I wouldn't hold my breath over that if I were you.

The company dropping it in the UK is apparently new to 4Ks, so I'm hoping they knock it out of the park. It's such a great film.

Cancelled? 4K is "currently unavailable" at Amazon; Diabolik just added this note to my order:

Hello, We were just notified that Dangerous Animals has been cancelled and thus removed from you order
