Second image mentions a March 25th date for Patlabor 2.

Very excited!!!!! Will likely be importing since there's a good chance western releases will exclude the original stereo mixes like with the blu-rays..

Well these just went to the very top of my most wanted preorders.

They’re up on Amazon Japan, but I was struggling with the links.

No clue what is going on with japanese editions but they need to step up their Outer artwork game, what a shitshow their Neon Genesis Evangelion was.

For what it’s worth, the Amazon listings say, “Completely remastered by the series' first 4K film scan” for the first film, and “Completely remastered by a 4K film scan” for the second.

50/50 chance here. Bandai supervises these UHD remasters & bc of that, their track record isn't looking too good. But Oshii is supervising & The Red Spectacles UHD is very good looking, & GitS is one of the grainier Bandai UHDs, so who knows. Bandai also within the past year has become better about using OCNs & not rushing scans so we'll see

Red Spectacles is not anime and the Ghost in the Shell UHD is a scrubbed upscale, the Anchor Bay BD has way more film grain. Take a look at the Heavy Metal UHD for what a old anime should look like.

It's not an upscale, it's a 5K scan of an IP (though the scanner they did use isn't the most optimal, admittedly, since it has a pretty mediocre sensor). It has more image visible than the old BD (also, the old 2007 transfer sucks, as it crushes highlights & shadows). Grain isn't that big of a deal if it's toned down PROPERLY, Crying Freeman & Cardcaptor Sakura's new remasters prove that. Even the slightest grain removal doesn't remove any detail (see: MADOX-01).
Heavy Metal's grain is a tad bit abrasive also, so not really.

I dont care what the made-up excuses are used for these lazy and cheap cash-grabs.

I will never buy anything other then actual 4k scans and if it has no film grain then its crap.

See the Heavy Metal UHD for eye-popping detail increase in every frame instead of the detail removing Ghost in the Shell UHD.

Hopefully WXIII will follow, even though I know it's not as popular as the first two films.

- First off:

- Secondly, it's an actual film scan lmfao: https://av.watch.impress.co.jp/docs/news/1123736.html
- I'm also simply stating why it looks "softer" than you may expect, & that DNR isn't the always the reason why. Also, you shilling the old Anchor Bay & the old 00s HD remaster is comical when highlight & shadow detail are crushed. At least use that fan-encode of the WOWOW HDTV airing instead to compare to the UHD.
- I never said that Heavy Metal's UHD isn't good, but Felidae & Watership Down have better grain rendering, just saying.
- Also DNR jumpscare:

Have a good day!

Would love to pre-order this but I will have to wait and see what the landscape looks like for importing to the USA after August.
