Default Defenders of the Earth DVD: Stereo?

I'm curious about the BCI/Eclipse DVD sets (yeah, many years ago) of the animated series Defenders of the Earth.

I'm just curious if the episodes have stereo sound on the DVDs? The reason I ask is because I was looking through an old copy of trade publication Broadcasting magazine (1986), and there was an ad for DotE (from Marvel/King Features/Hearst/Orbis Communications). The ad is a promo to attract TV stations in various TV markets, and it said that it is in stereo sound.

I might decide to purchase through Ebay the 2-volume set of DotE (all 65 episodes).

Thanks......

I don’t have the discs but remember seeing this on the air in stereo. BCI Eclipse’s DVDs of the Filmation Ghostbusters cartoon are in stereo, used to watch that on TV also just for the sound quality.

Hi 8traxrule!

Did the DotE broadcasts back in '86 have stereo effects and/or music?

Those Filmation Ghostbusters DVDs have truly UNREAL stereo sound in terms of music and well mixed effects!!! Right on par with World Events' Voltron, Saber Rider, Denver, and the Vytor one-week preview!!!!!

Did you get to watch (and hear) other 80s cartoons broadcast in stereo sound in your TV market? I'm definitely curious about 1986's SilverHawks, Adventures of the Galaxy Rangers, and Dennis the Menace........or any others you want to share?

I have the BCI Eclipse’s DVDs, and the audio is encoded as Dolby Digital 2.0, but I'm not sure if they are actually stereo. Is there any particular episode or scenes that shows off the stereo effects the best?

Maybe try watching one episode from beginning (opening theme and title) to end (closing theme/end credits), and see if there is any discernible separation in the 1. sound effects mixing 2. dialogue and/or 3. music, both theme music and episodic score. Unfortunately, at the time, I didn't have immediate access to a stereo TV back in '86....and I have not encountered these DVDs at all, so I can't say any episode in particular.

Voltron was actually the very FIRST TV show in stereo in the US. Japan had stereo TV since 1979, so for the English version of Voltron they kept the stereo mix. Wasn’t much into the show but would watch it every time I could just to hear actual stereo over the air. Remember Silverhawks in stereo also, the music in that was pretty cool.

Vaguely remember Saber Rider, Dennis the Menace was in stereo also but didn’t take real advantage of it. By that time there were a good number of shows on the air in stereo.

Do you remember SilverHawks having any degree of stereo separation in any aspect?
