I'll wait for Paramount to punt them out in the US if uncut International Cut at the very least. I have a feeling these "independent" labels getting them like Signature in the UK means the new Encore cut.

"Thanks to this elaborately restored version in stunning picture quality, you can now reimagine these cult adventures".

They've already reimagined the first one for us, so that's nice of them.

At least this might be a 4K of the sequel that’s authored properly with HDR and Dolby Vision.

There's a statement from the German label boss:

Quote:
Hello xxx,

Thank you for your message. I just saw the discussion. First of all, I would like to mention that we are very happy to be able to release both parts of Crocodile Dundee in 4K. The restoration took two years and the result is really good. From now on, there will only be one version of Crocodile Dundee, namely the version approved by Paul Hogan without the two short scenes where he grabs someone between the legs in the bar and at the party. We tried everything to release the original version with the two scenes, but Paul Hogan would not approve it. He said it was either that or the film could not be released. And it's not just Paul Hogan, but also the director and the production company who only want to see the film released in its current version. Personally, I would have preferred to release both versions and let fans choose which one they wanted to see. However, I don't think the film has lost any of its impact in its current form, as it's not actual scenes that are missing, just a few short shots. We have been able to include some great bonus material, including the new cinema documentary Love of an Icon, which has just been released in Australian cinemas. We have also produced German and English Dolby Atmos and 5.1 audio tracks (the original stereo mix is also included). I hope this is some small compensation.

Best regards,

Gerhard Winkler

Quote:
Hallo xxx,

Gerhard Winkler

I don't think they will.
They might give us the following though:

Encore cut in 4k.
International version in HD.
Austrialian version in SD.

I might consider buying the movie if these things are included

They already restored the international version in 4K, there’s no reason it would be limited to HD.

I wouldn't get your hopes up. Paramount didn't do their own restoration of the film; it was a joint effort between Paramount and Rimfire Films, and restoration work was performed by the Grainery in Australia. Paramount received a different deliverable before the premiere of the Encore Cut, and put that on streaming. Streaming and home video licensing are completely different things, and I suspect that once the current license expires then it will be replaced by the Encore Cut.

This is how censorship and sanctification of "problematic" works has operated in the past. The earlier forms are gradually phased out and replaced while the publisher only releases the content in edited form from there on out. I don't have faith that a big corporation is going to do niche home video collectors any favors here, and unlike some, I don't find it hard to believe that they pushed for the film to be treated this way in the first place. It's always the biggest players that get cold feet around such things and then influence or pressure the smaller players into capitulating.

This quote from the statement shared by TheHutt is the writing on the wall:

Cue people arguing over how the director doesn't really agree with the decision, and other stuff about Paramount while completely ignoring the bigger picture.

So there's an international 4k digital version available somewhere? Does it have upgraded audio?

I couldn't find a topic about it.

I'll stick with the Blu-ray of the first film. That way I remain in control of the version I want to watch. I will not support unnecessary imposed censorship.

I'm not sure, but others have mentioned it being on AppleTV/iTunes or something recently. I just did a Google search and it appears that it may already be replaced with the Encore Cut and the finished master for the sequel in certain territories.

Ehhhh, not if you’ve cut bits out of it to mirror the Encore Cut, Gerhard.
