HBO/Warner will be releasing the complete series for Curb Your Enthusiasm on Blu-ray on October 14th! This will be a MOD-distributed release, but will have pressed discs. I'll update the post when official artwork and other details are added.

This iconic Emmy - and Golden Globe -winning semi-improvised comedy series stars creator Larry David as an over-the-top, self-absorbed version of himself who finds endless ways to make a mess of his pretty, pretty good life. Offering a tongue-in-cheek depiction of the writer/producer/comedian's fictionalized world and friends, Curb Your Enthusiasm follows Larry's awkward everyday encounters, social missteps and knack for turning mundane situations into chaotic disasters, often leading to hilariously uncomfortable situations.

Hopefully the 4:3 seasons aren't cropped like they are on HBO (i still have my DVDs just incase though )

I have the DVDs of the good seasons, we'll see.... I do love the 4:3. I think some of mine are dead though.

Hopefully this turns out well, keeps the correct ratios for the early seasons, assuming they aren’t open matte and are genuinely cropped on streaming, and has no issues with audio or video encoding.

The fact that HBO is releasing a comedy show on blu-ray right now is a minor miracle, considering they generally abandoned the genre on blu to focus on releasing (mostly only tentpole, which this IS one of their tentpole comedies) sci-fi/fantasy/horror/drama, if we’re even lucky enough to get those, considering how many of them are absent or incomplete on blu. Will absolutely purchase if everything turns out well, but will definitely be waiting for more information before pre-ordering.

S01 to S06 are available in upscaled 4:3 HD on HBO Max Nordic, they could easily include those versions instead of the botched cropped ones.

This is what I’m most worried about. Those cases are beyond atrocious and from what I’ve seen have been the standard for recent HBO complete series releases like Succession and Veep. Curb deserves better than that (and Six Feet Under, which if Curb is getting a release, seems inevitable with the recent remaster of the first two seasons).

Wow, I didn’t think this would ever happen, given that the first six seasons are SD and the rest didn’t even get one season on Blu-ray on original release. Can’t wait!

I never buy TV shows but this is day 1 to update the crappy DVD cases. Hope Six Feet Under is next so I can get rid of the chunky boxes.

Aside from the early seasons hopefully being in 4x3 again, one thing that I unfortunately doubt will happen is releasing the original unedited cut of Wandering Bear. For an unknown reason the DVD/streaming releases are edited to remove the Girls Gone Wild footage.

As well as wondering what aspect ratio the SD episodes will be in, what frame rate will they be? It was shot interlaced at 60i but filmised for transmission - however when the BBC broadcast the early seasons in the UK the PAL standards conversions failed QC and HBO sent them special new masters with the original videolook retained, and those became the UK versions. I think it does actually look slightly better interlaced.

Wonder how bad all the CGI beauty filters on all the lead cast's face will look like on the final season. Such a bizarre thing to do to a comedy.

Never thought this would happen. I'll probably get this eventually, but there is too much coming out in October for me to invest in this right now. Still, one of my favorite comedy shows.
