Default Big Trouble In Little China

So last night they kept showing this on the Fox Movie Channel... and i have to say it looks great... the quality looks like it was just filmed yesterday, the colour and quality of the print looks great, of course theres lots of black specks (mainly near the end of the film) but it doesnt look like they got a video from the 80s thats degenerated and aired it, it looks great!

i wonder if FOX will release it anytime soon :/

wow just read on wiki, that the movie was a flop in theatres when it came out! its like one of the coolest 80s movies to me and others around the same age

One of my favourite movie of all time. It needs a good soundmix remaster, the DVD sounded shit.

I agree, this is a highly underrated movie. Very entertaining. I saw it on the Fox replay as well and it would definitely be on my must have BD list.

A cult classic for sure. It was much like The Matrix Movie, in the theaters it flopped, then came out on DVD and took off.

There is talk out there of re-doing the master and releasing on blu in the future, just no firm date.

I wouldn't call "The Matrix" a flop...it made $171,383,253 at the box office.

If you don't believe me, click here and scroll down.

It's number 124.

Big Trouble in Little China is probably my overall favorite John Carpenter movie.

This is a movie that has easily held up to repeated viewings for me over the years and I can't wait until they re-master and release this on BD. I will buy it as soon as it comes out!

I only wish more movies like this would be released on BD, I know its a cult classic and I am not sure how big the audience is for it, but I would guess that based on the average age of early Blu-ray adopters (20-40???), I would think that this would be one of their favorite cult movies from the 80's and would sell well. But I could be wrong, don't know. Maybe they should release it soon so we can all find out...

A fun movie, I showed it to my kids a few years back and they really enjoyed it. A timeless good time movie. Kurt Russell is great in it.

It was considered a flop here in the US. Not sure if your $$ figure is world wide or not, but if you do some searching on the web, you will find that it was considered a flop until it came out on DVD, then it took off. There are enough articles out there to back this up.

The Matrix:

$27, 788, 331 opening weekend
$171, 383, 253 US Total

Budget: $63,000,000

Nearly triple the budget in US theaters alone is not a flop. The buzz was huge once it opened, but the expectations weren't too high. It was a hit no matter who you ask.

You may be thinking of Austin Powers. That was a moderate success at best in US theaters but became a huge rental hit.

That is the U.S. figure the worldwide figure is around $460 million. I googled "The Matrix" I didn't get anything that says it was a flop, commercially or critically, back in 1999, 100 million dollars at the box office was blockbuster material anything above that, was incredible. So if you could please link any of said information and articles that "The Matrix" was considered a flop.

BTW here is a breakdown of "The Matrix" Box office earnings for the U.S., including it's estimated budget.

I hope they bring the commentary over from the DVD. The commentary between Carpenter and Russell is absolutely hilarious!!

The Thing's commentary was hilarious too!

Here's another vote for BTILC on Blu. Been a fan ever since I saw it in the theaters (and despite it's poor box office take, the showing I was at literally had people cheering, clapping and laughing like it was opening day of the original Star Wars). It's been out on vhs, dvd, even UMD, seems about time for Blu.
