Default Philips Ambilight HDTV

so does anyone have a philips ambilight tv i am thinking about buying one and would like to know if it is worth it.
and if you do have one is it a surround ambilight or one that just has the ambilight on the left and right side of the tv

it's pretty annoying, a gimmick

the performance is also below what you can get from competing brands.

Plasma: Panasonic, Samsung
LCD: Sony, Samsung

I would think you could get a small fluorescent bias light and put it behind the tv? Look for D65 lamps with high CRI of 90 or more. Then you can choose any display you want. Also, remember, the bias light trick doesn't really work unless you have a neutral grey or white wall.

It's not annoying it's great. We have one with stereo ambilight. One does not want to shut it off.

Yeah, you might like it but it still doesn't compensate for the lower resolution, lack of black level and color accuracy than the competition.

Philips is incredibly questionable for making a quality display. You would be far better off with a Panasonic or Pioneer plasma or a Sharp or Sony LCD.

I keep seeing the Philips and thinking they look alright, and backlighting a display potentially has a value in image quality appearance. But, changing colors from a white 6500K temperature is NOT what anyone should be doing.
