Default Gamepro: PS3 vs. Xbox 360 ports

Great news for the PS3!!!

Gamepro looked at 4 games: Assassin's, Burnout Paradise, COD4, and DMC4

Here's the link: http://www.gamepro.com/microsoft/xbo...s/164668.shtml

Summary (winner for each game):

Assassin's (360)
Burnout (PS3)
COD4 (PS3)
DMC4 (PS3)

3 out of 4 ain't bad. They said all the games were pretty much the same, but looks like dev are taking the PS3 more seriously now. Hopefully this trend will continue.

why did they give them AC?...what was the difference?..

they should add games like madden etc...360 would definitely have that...

the only disappointment I have with my PS3 is that I hated Madden 08...period...

They gave AC to 360 because of slightly better lighting/graphics and running a bit smoother. With that said, Gamepro said that PS3's AC patch alleviated a lot of the frame rate issues.

As for Madden and all the other EA games, I think it was obvious that the 360 was better last year, and they mentioned it. However, I think they were showing that the PS3, as of recent times, isn't getting shafted anymore.

EA continues to vex me in every regard. If they're going to rob us on a constant basis, they could at least spend SOME of that money developing adequately for the PS3!

The patch as I recalled installed automatically when the game loaded. It's been out for a little bit now.

ok, but i still can't justify buying games like cod4 on the ps3 over 360 because
xbox live is so much better.....I know you have to pay for it.....But the hours
i put in this year playing Gears of War, Halo and Cod4 make it like .000001 cent per hour

but if i was JUST buying the game to play the campaign i'd probably role with
the ps3 titles

Do you have to connect to the internet to download the patch?

It's funny you should mention online, because Gamepro said that the PS3 online was better on both COD4 and Burnout. I almost couldn't believe it myself, but it has to do with the PS3 dedicated server vs. the peer to peer with xbox live, and thus better performance on the PS3. Now I can't vouch for that because I don't have the 360 version, but I have to say the PS3 version is quite good.

Wow, this is the FIRST time I have ever heard any type of gaming publication not Sony or PlayStation brand affiliated give any kind of major props to the PS3 over the 360 game-wise.

What's even more miraculous is that they said the edge PS3 had on Burnout paradise was online play? WTF? Hell has officially frozen over, and I love it.

I totally agree with your sentiments. That's why I was excited to post this article.

does the ps3 even support voice chat yet though, that was one of it's
major draw backs at first, it's hard to play team shooter games if you can't
communicate....

Even if the server is running slightly better, the fact that so many good
shooter games, more specifically Halo, make it so you have a bunch of
"Shooter friends" on your friends list, which in turn you have to factor
in when buying a game.....If you have 5 homies you always play with
your probably all gonna buy the same one

Haven't played COD4 online, but Burnout Paradise PS3 has voice chat and webcam compatibility. They did a great job taking advantage of PSN. Burnout Paradise's online play is absolutely amazing. Warhawk obviously also has voice chat, since it comes bundled with a bluetooth headset.

Yes it has voice chat. I think that the controllers for the 360 is better for shooters, but the PS3 isn't that bad either. As for friends having the console you have, that makes a huge difference. However, I was just addressing the issue of how the online game actually plays really well on PS3 for COD4

I finally got to see COD4 in action on a friend's PS3, and certain maps had slightly better features than my 360 version. For instance, draw distances on Pipeline and Overgrown were slightly better... On the 360, it is known that if you're a sniper, you better hide REALLY good on those maps because anyone at a distance can see you pretty easily... Only when you zoomed in did all the grass come into play. For the PS3 version, the snipers were definitely well hidden (still visible), just the draw distance was much better... On Ambush, there was slightly better detail to the textures on some of the buildings... Besides that, they were pretty much the same.

The downer though was the controller... I've always believed that the 360 controller was better for FPS games, and it was proven today... The triggers on the 360 controller are MUCH better for FPS games than the flat buttons on the PS3 controller.

Interesting article none the less... And I'll agree with the DMC review... The 360 controller is not conducive to the game.

BTW, has a Bionic Commando Re-Armed video been released on the PSN? Live just got one today and it looks absolutely amazing... Love the fact that it has co-op! On Live (hopefully they do it with PSN too), anyone that buys BC:Re-Armed gets the "original" BC skin to be used for the up-coming next-gen version.
