Default Any idea as to how long it might be before King Kong (2005) is released on Blu-ray?

Since the war is over, I was curious if there had been any announcements.

Whenever Universal gets around to releasing BDs, this will probably one of their earlier titles.

Peter Jackson's King Kong is one of my favorite films. The effects are incredible. I love the James Newton Howard score. I keep the HD cable broadcast version saved on my TIVO. Hoping to see this one on Blu-ray someday (hopefully soon).

Universal did a great job on the dud considering the length of the movie and size of disc. It will have plenty of room to breath on the bd when its released. Hopefully sooner than later.

I have the hddvd version. If they add the 20 mins of extra footage and lossless audio, i'll probably end up getting the blu-ray version too

Why would they? The movie sold what like 10 copies? Why rerelease a movie that studios see no profit from

Peter Jackson's King Kong is in my top ten that I am waiting for. It will look outrageous on Blu, hopefully with sound to match....
Extended version a must....

King Kong is one of my most anticipated titles from Universal! I agree that it must be the extended version! Blu Ray certainly has the disk space for it!

btw, can anyone tell me what exactly the extended version had? Some say there's more to the dinosaur fight. Some say there's a deleted scene where they're on a raft and get attacked by a water creature.

To be honest, outside of the special features (mostly the behind-the-scenes and explanations for how they came up with and executed certain things) I was not all that impressed with the extended edition. Most of the deleted scenes were pretty weak and superfluous, and some even bad. The only one I really liked was the little bit of extra footage during Kong's capture. The raft being attacked by the water creature was ok, but totally unnecessary. The best and most interesting part of the EE which is to me the only reason worth buying it were the behind the scenes and "making of" segments. The theatrical cut is still the only one I watch when watching the movie, and that's a masterpiece to me as it is...if it ain't broken, don't fix it- but it is worth watching the behind the scenes parts at least once.

When I had a HD DVD player this was the BEST looking and one of theBest Sounding HD DVD's I ever had. It even looked better than the best Blu-ray movies and to my eyes still does today after owning 40 or so Top Tier BD movies. ( I got rid fo hd dvd 1 yr ago) I have never seen a more 3d looking movie, it was stupendous!

With the PQ of the HD DVD and a Lossless Track on BD, this would be the Ulitmate BD ever released !!! (so far)

I've got the extended cut and theatrical on DVD. Other than the raft sequence and some stuff with the army in NYC the additions/changes were not memorable.

I think this BD would be a good opportunity to use seamless branching to include both cuts.

This is an easy answer: Whenever Microsoft releases the Blu-Ray add-on for the Xbox 360. Same movie as before...
