Default Did this happen at all Wal-Marts

Okay, so I just got back from wal-mart and I noticed 3 things that I was wondering if its just me or all wal-marts.

1. The Blu-ray/HD DVD endcap has been replaced by Easter movies and has been moved into the aisle.

2. Beowulf or any other new HD DVD title has not been stocked at all, not sold out, not stocked!

3. HD DVD player prices have been slashed in half. A2 is now $74 by me.

The local Wally World in town had zero HD DVD or Blu ray players, and the movies were in small section right near the counter...not much more than 15 BD's and 8 HD DVD's stocked.

My GF and I actually counted. There was 11 DVD players that were being sold higher than the HD DVD player.

I have two Wal-Marts that are 20 min away from me. One always had a decent selection of Blu Rays the other one had them hidden behind glass in the PS3 display. Now, as of this week, the one that had the decent selection of Blu now has little to none and the one that had the movies hidden away now has an entire slection in with the reg. DVD's. What the hell is that about???? Strange.

This happened at mine. And they have so few that it took me forever to find them. Not even enough for a section, more like two vertical rows

That almost makes me want to go to Wal-Mart and look for an HD-DVD player. I don't care if the format is dead, that's a bargain. You're getting a quality machine to play DVD's for 1/5th its original price.

Matter of fact, I think I'm gonna get dressed and go over there right now.

Just got back from Wal-Mart and yes, indeedy, they are selling the Toshiba HD-A2 for $74.68!!!

So I grabbed one (and a case of beer) and got out of there. Now I don't have to use my PS3 to play regular DVD's, and I can replace my ancient non-progressive for something a little more modern.

normally i would call you a loser for buying an HD DVD player, but given that they are cheaper than most of the DVD players at wal-mart, i think it is completely justified. Blu supporters should help get those things off the shelves for good.

Even if I had bought it months ago, why would that make me a loser? Do you honestly think that some is a "loser" just because they supported HD-DVD?

I love how people get into these little wars and lose all perspective. Anybody who gets that gung-ho taking sides over some giant corporations' products ought to have their head checked.

New member - 1st post. This looks like a great forum for useful information.

On the subject of Wal-Mart, I went to my local Wal-Mart after the HD surrender expecting to see more BRs. Instead, all but 4-5 Blu-rays had been removed from the shelf. I asked the department manager (who I know) what was going on. She said for the time being her department would only carry the newer releases of BR and only for a few weeks at a time. She also said she believes Blu-Ray will have its' own section soon; probably sometime in May. The HD players are half-price here also. Wal-Mart always takes a bit of time to adjust to new movements. First they want to try to get rid of all their HD equipment, then jump into BR. Sure hope she's right about the Blu-Ray section - that would be nice.

The endcaps were meant to promote HD media during the holidays when Wal-mart was having so many specials on movies and players. Now that people are more aware of what is offered, they have been moved back into the main inlines. In addition, this will make it easier later down the road to expand the Blu-ray section beyond its' current 4 feet. While most of you know that the whole 4 ft section will be Blu-ray by summer, the inline presence will allow for greater expansion as the format continues to build.

Enjoy.

1. That happened across all Wal-Marts. It was time for a video reset. The Easter endcap is a seasonal thing. It will change as holidays do. The Blu-ray/HD DVD section is now a part of the New Releases. I ended up adjusting my HD section so that it's almost all Blu-ray. I decided to keep one row of HD DVD's just out of curiousity (see if anyone would still buy them).

2. I only got one copy of Beowulf on HD DVD and it sold right away. Last week, a few copies of American Gangster were also purchased.

3. Not only the A2, but the A3 also went down to $74. If you check out BestBuy.com, they have the A35 for $149, but it's sold out.

It's funny how different Wal-Marts in Canada are. Every Wal-Mart I have been to in the Niagara region carry quite a LOT of Blu-ray movies.
