Default Universal, hurry up and release Shaun of the Dead! The HD DVD doesn't even work!

My friend imported a Toshiba A3 and some HD DVDs, including Shaun of the Dead. For some reason it froze up in several places towards the end. He then had Amazon send him a replacement, but that copy did the same thing. I looked on AVS and apparently this is a common problem with Shaun of the Dead when played on an A3.

Seriously I don't know how HD DVD fans could ever complain about Blu-ray profiles and other lame arguments when their discs wouldn't even play...

I'm really looking forward to a release of this as well. Plus Hot Fuzz!

Oh, I'd love to see those 2 coming soon....
Anyone ever seen the british TV show Spaced? It's like Shaun, but without the zombies... quite funny though!

Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz are two of the most coveted (for me) comedies that Universal distributes. Meet the Parents and Meet The Fockers will be cool too.

I've never had a HDDVD that would not play in my A20. I've had some scratchy DVD's that wouldn't.

Shawn of the Dead was a great movie, though. I didn't think Hot Fuzz was nearly as good. The Zombedy genre just strikes my fancy for some reason.

I actually really love non-North American offbeat English language comedies. Cold Comfort Farm, Danny Deck Chair, The Man Who Went up a Hill and Came Down a Mountain, The Boys and Girl of County Clair, to name a few.

Never had a problem with this movie on my A3. Maybe I'm lucky, but I never have had any movie freeze on either my Toshiba A3, or my PlayStation 3 for that matter. I have an 4 year old 56" HDTV and my set only goes up to 1080i and so both my players are set for 1080i. No real need for a 1080p player. TV's have a life of 10-15 years, so by that time something new and better will be available and we all wonder what the Blu Ray/HD DVD fuzz was all about.

I have had both HD DVD and Blu Ray since December 2007 and I did for the simple reason of being able to watch any movie I wanted to see regardless of which studio released it on what format.

When Toshiba pulled out I bought another A30 for back-up and I paid for all 3 players about $450, so slightly more than Best Buy charges for the PS3 40GB. I would have done the same with Blu Ray if the results of the war would have been reversed.

So you can see, I have been Purple, just like the Minnesota Vikings here in the Twin Cities.

Yeah, I'd say you're just lucky considering the number of people on AVS complaining about this title in this thread and others:

It never hurts to make sure you have the latest firmware installed. That might be the problem (or part of it) too.

The person in that thread already tried that, pretty sure my Japanese friend has 1.3 as well. The latest 2.0 firmware is apparently buggy and causes jaggies:

Shaun played perfectly in my A2 (XF-2). I think the 3rd gen Tosh are extremely sensitive to dirt/scratches.

It's not dirt/scratches. He had no problems with his other discs (maybe 10 or so) and another copy of the disc froze in the same place.

I also can see why someone wouldn't like it. I'm not one of those people who thinks my opinion is a definitive fact. There are a lot of movies I really dislike that others love. I'm okay with that. I don't understand some people's need to convert others to their opinion.

It wasn't great, but it was decent. I definitely thought Hot Fuzz was overrated though.

Count me in as one that would buy Shaun of the Dead on Blu-ray as after 3 firmware upgrades my HD-DVD still doesn't play. I have an A3 also.
