I just downloaded Ver 2.10 firmware for the PS3 from the playstation website. This new firmware adds Profile 1.1 and Divx support ( asia version ). The link here : http://asia.playstation.com/sg/ps3/ps3_softupdate.htm
Looking at the instructions, it just seems a matter a copying the update file to USB drive and plug it to the PS3 and select system update from the menu. Before I tried it, just have a few questions : 1) Has anyone tried this out before? 2) If something happens after I run the firmware update, is there anyway to reverse back to the old firmware prior installation? 3) Does PS3 firmware update needs to be installed sequentially? Ie 2.0 first, then follow by 2.10 or not necessary? 4) Will the PS3 retains all the settings after installation or everything must be set again? Thanks in advance! |

2. You cannot go back to an older version...do not turn off the PS3 until update is complete. 3. No, you can update to the most recent firmware. Everything is already included plus the bugs may/may not have been fixed...also newer capabilities added. 4. Normally it will keep your original settings. Some instances there have been a few "defaults" back to factory setting. Also newer features added might cause you to change your existing settings. All things work well after the update. As to how to apply it, and in what sequence updates are applied, why not just connect your PS3 to the network and have it perform the updating for you in the order it wants to? Works fine, and it will notify you of updates needed when they become available, you won't have to hunt for them, download the, put them on a stick etc.

Thanks guys for the feedback.
I'm concern about downloading it directly from the internet using the PS3 because the connection at my home isn't stable sometimes. So if it disconnect halfway, not sure if it will cause the PS3 to hang. Also, do you all know if something doesn't work with the old firmware, will I be able to download the older firmware and update the PS3 again? |

using the PS3 to download it and update is just fine. It won't update until it has finished downloading the firmware. so you don't have to worry about your connection dropping out and "runing" the installation or something.
