Hi today is my brother bday and I want to give a reciver he got a PS3 & HDDVD player any coments on this reciver?

I had the 688 and upgraded to the 2808ci and then returned that for a yamaha V1800. im sure it would be a good reciever, but it does not decode DTS-ma or True-HD

I have the AVR987 and love it. If you are look at Denon go with the AVR988 if you can swing it. It is the upgrade to mine and it will decode all the new audio formats (DD-HD, DTS-HD,DTS-HDMA. But, the avr788 is 499 in the CC ad today
