Default Home made BR disks and BR players

Hello,

There is something I fail to understand :
Blu Ray is said to be highly secured.

Imagine I buy a HD camcorder, a Blu ray drive for my PC to burn Blu ray disc , and a software able to produce Blu ray DVD

Will the Blu Ray discs I’ll produce (so without any protection scheme) be readable by my Blu ray player (from PS3 to Panasonic BD30)

Thanks in advance

Yes. The blanks itself will have a DRM mechanism that disables making copy of that disc.

So you can make copies of your home HD videos but nobody can make copies of your stuff.

As long as the manufacturers allow BD-R/RE playback for BDMV or BDAV, we will be fine. So far most players have been able to play BDAV with no or little problems but the BDMV format was iffy in the beginning but seems to be supported better lately.

If you don't author the disc, I think you should be able to create a data disc, burn your files and play back with no problems. Though I haven't tried it yet...

Really? That sucks!!! Is this true for data discs as well? If so, BR is pretty useless for backup purposes.

Won't the latest version of AnyDVD HD by SlySoft allow you to at least copy the movie to you hard drive from a self made Blu-ray disc, so that you can re-author it again for backup purposes?

Did you mean to use future tense there? Don't mean to argue, just curious about whether you meant a future product.

When we make BD-Videos and BD-ROM (data Blu-ray discs) they are entirely copy unrestricted.

Future tense. Though I think it'll come out pretty soon, as more AVCHD cameras are sold and more people make their own movies.

I should clarify that the DRM does not apply to BD-R/RE burned as data files. When it is burnt as BDMV, it applies as that is also the format of pre-recorded BD movies.

That would be going about it the wrong way.

If I have a self-made disc with self-made content using BDMV mode and I want to make multiple copies to give away (it's my content), all I need to do is put in how many discs do I want to burn.

As for re-authoring it again and to clear up some HDD space, I could burn data files that makes up the BDMV. Then store that somewhere else and pull it back out whenever I need to make new copies. I don't need to use AnyDVD to do that.
