Default Are you an addict?

Do you ever think you spend too much money on blu-ray? I mean...they CAN get expensive sometimes! Is it always worth it ? Is buying a blu-ray that you already have on dvd going too far? I mean some of the dvd's can look ALMOST as good as bluray when upconverted.... right? What is the obsession we have with movies? When I'm bored...I'll buy a movie...or two. When I'm depressed...I'll spend money... on movies. I always look forward to buying a movie to watch with the gf on the couch....it's fun! I can't hardly wait for release days. What is wrong with us? It seems to be an addiction. When a new movie comes out...we gotta have it. We spend money on blu-ray when we shouldn't be spending any...at all. I think it can be a problem sometimes! I guess it's more than just the movie that drives us to blow a lot of money. In the end.... watching a good movie in the highest quality available is one of my favorite things to do. How about you? Are you guys/girls addicted?

prepare to get blasted. I agree with you, I buy movies even if I havent seen them just because im addicted to them. Blu ray is noticably better than DVD upscaled though.

I hear you guys talk about blind buy's alot. I think buying a movie and seeing it for the first time in hi-def is ALOT of the fun! To me...that's just another part of the addiction. I never go to the movies and release day is almost ALWAYS when I see movies for the first time. I have no problem blind buying anything on blu-ray!

I have about 80 Blu's- many of which I would NEVER see if it were in the theater or only available on standard DVD. (Dragon Wars anybody?) They just look so dang pretty! Seriously though, probably 20-30 of my Blu-ray titles aren't even opened and may *never* get opened. WTF is wrong with me?

Look at it this way: It's not as bad or as expensive as some addictions. Blu-ray won't kill you if you overdose. It won't give you AIDS or herpes. It's totally legal. You don't have to get others addicted to support your habit (unless you think working at Best Buy or Amazon qualifies and you happen to work there). It doesn't give you brain damage (unless you take in too many stupid films ). The only thing you may have to worry about is your budget.

I like films and I like to watch them in an optimal setting (i.e. at home and in high quality presentation). I'm more addicted to films than to blu-ray

its a hobby, I like to purchase blus, I probably spend more money than I should, but I don't spend money I don't have. I'm also quite fussy over what i purchase and wouldn't buy a movie simply because it was on blu.

As much as I like watching Blu Ray's I won't get anything just because it IS on Blu. I admit I have made a few blind buys due to BOGO's but I have enjoyed each and every movie I have purchased on Blu. It does get addicting though. Seeing Close Encounters on BD was like watching it for the first time.

It's not a real "addiction"! It's the hunter in us! Men is known for hunting and collection ever since!.... hmmm, wonder if we are somewhat related to the Predator?

I'm definitely hooked on hi-def! I can understand that people with 30-40" TVs and mediocre soundsystems dont apreciate the quality. But once you get a taste of the full experience there is just no going back to SD DVD. I havent purchased a single SD DVD since november last year, but I -have- purchased about 80-90 Blu's since I got hooked in August 2007.

Hi-def is definitely the way to go.

Totally obsessed. But everyone should have a hobby. This one just happens to be expensive.

The problem for me is saving some money every month and trying to have enough left over to buy about 7 or 10 blurays a month at the moment

I used to buy 10 dvds a week at one point

Not true! Watching Spider-man 3 on Blu-ray could DEFINITELY give you herpes. I watched that movie in SD and I came away feeling all dirty and violated. No telling what HD will do to you.

On a serious note, no, I am not addicted to Blu-ray. But I do love movies, and enjoy hi-def. So for me, there is no such thing as spending too much money on Blu-ray movies. But I'm frugal, so I've never spent more than $20 on an individual movie (until this month, when I pre-ordered some for $25... /sigh).

Yeah, it's a very expensive hobby. I tested out the waters with a PS3 and just one Blu-Ray movie (Spiderman 3) just to try out the waters and within barely a month, my collection has "exploded" to nearly 40 titles. Guess you can say I'm strongly addicted.

The good thing is that I'm fast running out of titles that I want to buy so I'll stop for a while until more new release come out.
