Will Japan ps3 do all I want it to do? - Blu-ray Forum

I was told that I can change the language in the settings, and that the Japanees vervion will play all the same dvd's. Is this true? what are the differances?

Yup it will.

Only difference I think would be that once you sign up for a Japan account, you can't use that.

As for PS3 games, it will play ALL of them.

Only thing is that if you play PS2 games on them, there is still region-coding. In your case, the Jap PS3 will only accept NTSC/J games (no US or PAL European version ones)

the other thing i can think of is playing DVD's. is japan a different region than the US for DVD's?

It is. Japan is Region 2, like Europe, but NTSC, unlike PAL in Europe.

well,u can play all DVD movies from all regions in case that u play DVD back up (wihout Macrovision protection).I have NTSC/J as well and it playing all DVD regions 100%.

My Japanese PS3 won't play any non-Japan region DVDs. So Korea (and the USA) DVDs don't work. Blu-ray has different region coding, and the US, Japan, and Korea are all in the same region for that.

And if it helps, I can play region-free DVDs on my PS3.

I also import Blu-ray disks from the USA, and they play find on my Japanese PS3.

All imported USA-version games play as well.
