I find the overseas covers interesting but that is probably because I am used to seeing the US versions. I would like to see different covers (that the ones used in the DVD version) for catalog releases of BD movies. For example, I like the new cover for Gattaca. In addition, the idea that Sony implemented with having BD owners choose the cover for Baron M. was great!

I say we get the short end of the stick when it comes to cover on BD and DVD...oversees seem to have better covers and they have a less strict rating system....

I like the US ones better the only reason there deff over seas is because they have a strict rating system especially Australia

Wow, I wish we had that Aussie Fifth Element cover here in the UK!

Sometimes we miss out on decent sleeve design here in the UK though:

US:

Thankfully, Warners don't region-code!

At least the new BR artwork is painted, done by the same guy that does Lucas's posters, and not some cheap photoshop montage of noggins

I am in the UK and think that the US Blade Runner cover is much better than the UK version.

I would like to see the original film artwork used for most releases.

It would also be nice if you could order (maybe from a website) different covers so you had a choice.

I really don't understand photo-montage cover art.

Original poster art is ALWAYS a thousand times better than something cobbled together for the various video releases and I simply don't understand why they don't just use it.

And there are usually a few different pieces of original art to choose from!

I've never understood it either, but unfortunately it's proven time and again that people buy/rent blindly based on 'who's in it" rather than the story, or the quality of the film

There are very few people that I'll do that with. Johnny Depp for one (this is based on almost 25 years of being a fan), because he chooses projects I tend to like. I don't buy it because Depp is in it, I buy/see it because he tends to have good taste, and is also in it

Yeah speaking of covers/cases, i buy my blu rays from the states due to the price (at least 50% cheaper, even after shipping!!) But i've noticed that the cases are quite thin and appear more flimsy to those on sale here in Ireland. The cases here are a bit chunkier, feel more durable - same size as a ps3 game (or maybe these are really thin in the states too?)

PS3 cases are the same around the world. Yeah, I prefer the thicker cases as well. Germany uses both the thin and thick case.

As for cover art, it is a shame that the US usually has the 'ugliest' ones. Flashy montages are more appealing to the average consumer so that is why it is like that.
