Default Blu-Ray drives only $1 > HD-DVD

More HD-DVD "myth busting"...

Indeed.

But when coming to the prices... Where's the power of the industry? Damn you can beat HD DVD in a couple of months and the production lines would be deassembled..
Oh well, it's good for competition.

Thats good and all, but price will continue to drop for both formats and eventualy match DVD drives.

the more patient people will get more bang for their buck when drive become mainstream, while nutty "enthusiasts" and "keep up with the Jones" will be upgrading every year every time a new "better drive comes out".

The funny thing is that HD-DVD fans can already get an HD-DVD drive for $200.
The Xbox 360 HD-DVD drive may a flop waitng to happen, however smart niche movie enthusiast can watch HD-DVD on any PC with a 2.0Ghz+ processor and at least 1GB of ram. A 128mb or greater video card with DVD playback acceleration will also help.
That's right, Xbox 360 HD-DVD drive works with any PC with enough processing power and the right software, such as the latest Power DVD software.

However I plan to save up that 200 dollars towards a PS3, I know at least all my Japanese RPGs will be in 720p. 1080i blu-ray playback will a lot better than DVD.
But I hope they release a scaler soon to up sample all my old DVD movies just as well as my upconverting DVD player does and 720p Blu-ray to see the true resolution my TV can display.

Don't forget that you would also need a compliant grpahics card as well. The $200 HD-DVD add-on requires a $400 Xbox 360 (you have to have a hard drive for the 5.7GB software update to use the HD-DVD drive)! All of those options are more expensive than a PS3 at $500 with better sound.
