I actually watched Dan In Real Life last night, and I must say. I was pleasantly suprised. Pretty decent movie, thought it was a good blind buy.

Just watched Dan In Real Life yesterday as well. I was a bit skeptical at the beginning, but I ended up loving it. The shower scene is hysterical! It's good to see Carell come back after Evan Almighty (which, admittedly I didn't see, but the reviews pretty much summed up my thoughts from seeing the trailer). If you liked this, and haven't seen Lost in Translation, you may want to check it out. Not on Blu-ray, of course, but still a good flick.

I would check out King of California. I thought it akin to Little Miss Sunshine, albeit less funny.

Just watched Dan in Real life. Nearly turned it off-was very painful in parts, but glad we powered through, then ending sequence was sufficient. Very predictable and convenient (ie, the brother)

Felt like a Ben Stiller movie without Ben Stiller. I like Carrell, but thought this role didn't fit him all that well.

somewhat similar, I'd check out Wes Anderson movies. The Life Aquatic, The Royal Tenenbaums, etc.

All funny, but with good dramatic stories.

i thought dan in real life was ok. just ok tho. i don't think it should be classified as a comedy, though. i'd say it's more of a drama. it didn't have very many lol-moments in it. it reminded me of little miss sunshine kind of, but i absolutely love that movie. i love the darker comedy of it. dan in real life seemed too family friendly for me. but yeah, the best scene was the shower scene. it was steve carell being steve carell. and i love that. but this movie was alright. i'd watch it again if it was on tv, but i don't think i'd buy it.

btw... what was that song steve and dane were singing at the talent show? it sounded familiar but i couldn't think of it. help, anyone?

Anything written by Charlie Kaufman falls into this category I guess... Adaptation is one of my favorite movies.

Maybe Envy, a little off what you seem to be asking for, which I liked mainly for Christopher Walken. Actually I can stand Ben Stiller in it and I'm normally not a huge Ben Stiller fan.

A couple of other "Nicolas Cage"-movies falls in here: "The Weather Man" and "Matchstick Men" although I haven't seen either yet.
