Default The Wait Is Over..

After setting up the Sony BDP-300 with an HDMI cable, we finally watched our 1st BD movie (Rocky Balboa). There were several scenes which were breath catching IMO, and while I'm not lookin' a gift horse in the mouth, I have a few questions. Pardon my ignorance, but isn't the point of HD to be the variance of colors? The rose on the tombstone (Rocky) was just awesome! Out of curiosity, I've sampled various STDs, and found it hit or miss. Sin City looked fabulous, almost HD, while a few others had no difference. Just curious as to other thoughts, and/or experiences?

There's no extra colour information in a BD as opposed to a DVD. The transfers may however be better than DVD, so you may end up with better colour representation from that. The big improvement is clarity in picture.

BD is a High Definition format (ATSC), whereas DVD is Standard Definition (NTSC). Hi Def (ATSC) has an expanded color gamut and is much more realistic looking. It's one the criteria I look for in an HD image.

Color is definitely one of the areas of improvement in picture quality that Blu-ray offers.

Default Actually...

I've did some adjusting with the Sony, and the picture is really nice. Earlier, I played a music SD, and the picture appeared to almost look HD. Is that something normal, or is it all in how it was shot? No complaints here, I just feel that ignorance is a thing that can be avoided given a choice Thanks, enjoy the input.

Angry Well,....

It seems that I put my foot in my mouth (or in this case, DVD), so I'm glad that the laugh was on me. I've considered this site as a means to educate myself towards BD tech stuff, and as a novice, it's beneficial. As far as not getting you started again Mr. Saprano, I fail to get the gist of that?

well lets just say that Mr. Saprano has a history of "getting started".

Best to not get him started. Trust me.

anyways, the joke wasn't on you, it was just funny wording. No worries. If there was no humor on this site, most of us tenants would be complete d*cks.

Default Thanks!

I personally have a great sense of humor, even if the joke's on me. When I 1st considered an HD player, B-ray was my choice, funding was the only delay. After belching out some SDs, I've decided that I like the taste of BDs far better! Happy weekend to all...............
