I have a problem with Cyberlink PowerDVD Ultra. Everything is fine during playback except for when I enlarge the window too big or go into full screen. The pictures show this. The first one is PowerDVD in window mode enlarged to a certain size so not to create the stretch in the bottom portion of the image. Then the second one is the window being enlarge past the size in picture one creating the stretch in the bottom portion of the image. The third is in full screen mode, making the stretch much worst.
Here are my System Specs OS: Windows XP Pro SP2 (32-bit) Motherboard: ASUS Striker Extreme Processor: Intel Quad Q6600 Memory: Corsair Dominator DDR2 1066MHz HDD: Western Digital Raptor X 150GB Video Card: Zotac Geforce 8800GT AMP! Optical Drive: Pioneer Blu-ray BDC-2202 My HDTV is connected to my pc with a DVI-D to HDMI cable. My tv is also HDCP ready. I also tried connecting it to a regular monitor with both DVI and VGA cable, and it still did the same thing. Can anyone help or give me ideas to what the problem is? THANKS IN ADVANCE! |

I sent u a PM describing the process on how I fixed this problem, and how i recommended this to others with the same problem. That other person never wrote back, so i can only assume their problem was fixed. By the way, how do I get that cool VISTA tool bar that you have, looks like a VISTA theme, but looks like UR running XP?

This is not good. After finishing everything you told me to do exactly, my computer is having a few problems. I cannot get the internet and PowerDVD Ultra crashes ever time I try to play a Blu-ray disc. Right now I am using another one of my computers. Thanks for the suggestion though. I will try it again after I fix all the problems. If there are anymore suggestions, please post them. Thanks.

Okay, I just formatted my HDD and installed a fresh copy of Win Vista Ultimate 32-bit that I had. I was using Win XP Pro 32-bit because of the many problems I have with Vista. All I have installed right now is SlySoft's AnyDVD HD, the latest video drivers and audio drivers, and Cyberlink's PowerDVD Ultra. Of course, I also updated Vista with all the updates available. It works perfectly now with no problems whatsoever. Thanks for your reply.

Actually, I found WinDVD a little less than perfect. I bought it to playback Cars and it would after a fashion, but switching back to PowerDVD it would play it flawlessly and now plays all my movies flawlessly.
I found out my issue was user inflicted, it's called 'Impatience'. I switched the SATA controller my Blu Ray drive was on (thinking the controller was where the problem was) which made WinDVD re-run it's hardware test (the thing where your screen goes blank etc). Well previously I'd seen a blank screen followed by something that looked like TV static and presumed that my computer was having an issue and stopped the process by taking the blu ray disc out of the drive returning myself to the desktop, upon placing the disc back in the screen would be normal but playback was total garbage. However this time I just waited to see if the picture would come back on again, and 'TA DA' on it came and almost flawless playback of Cars by WinDVD 9, however re-trying Cyberlink on a whim it turned out a completely flawless performance of all my discs. So after weeks of crying foul about PowerDVD, and one graphics card upgrade, I find out the problem wasn't the hardware it was me. Feel stupid much ? YES I DO ! ![]() |

Hello... newbie here...
I have the exact same issue as ZachFair and would greatly appreciate the fix Rarredoa sent out. It has been driving me crazy (and it is a short drive) for two weeks and Cyberlink's free support is not very helpful and I am a bit cheap to pay to speak to someone there. I'm very greatful to have found this forum. I purchased a Sony BDU-X10S Blu Ray drive that included a BD edition of PowerDVD, which became the Ultra version after some free upgrades. I have a dual-core 2.4 MHz Dell XPS 410 machine with a Nvidia 8600 GTS video card. I believe I have the latest drivers for both the card and PowerDVD. I am running XP MCE SP3RC2 for my OS and did an update a few days ago. I have attach images, but basically it is exactly the issue of the original post of this thread. Thanks!!! Here's my reply to zackfair's problem... this solution was provided by NVIDIA directly, and it worked for me... hope it does the same!
![]() I believe this problem had to do with cyberlink not liking different video driver versions being used with their software. What i did was uninstall all drivers, using an "uninstall" utility that NVIDIA gave me a link to. First though, use the regular uninstall process. Keep in mind, that this may require several re-starts, ergh, i know Right-click on the desktop, select properties, select the settings tab, click on advanced, go to adapter, select properties, select driver tab, then finally select uninstall, and follow the rest of the instructions Next, go to this site... http://downloads.guru3d.com/download.php?det=1655 Once u install this software, and go to the program, it will ask u to select the driver u want to remove, you'll find that the driver u just uninstalled will still be listed, so this program will completely remove what's left. Select the video driver, remove it, make sure you visit the options tab on the pull down menu's up top. I forget the exact procedure, because i am using a work computer and i don't have that program installed here, but once you remove the driver completely, a status bar at the bottom of the window will fill up. Keep in mind that there won't be a "driver successfully removed" indication. When the status bar fills, that's when u know the driver's uninstalled. Then you can proceed and install the latest NVIDIA driver, from their site. Be sure u install the WHQL driver and NOT the latest BETA driver. I believe PowerDVD doesn't recognize the BETA driver, and hence will not operate properly. Hope this helps! It solved my problem, and it's a solution that i found after many different attempts! Cyberlink was very incompetent with their support of this problem ... I know it's a lot of steps but it just seems harder than it really is. |

Thanks for the info, rarredoa.
I purchased the upgrade to PowerDVD 8 Ultra over the weekend and plan to install it tonight (there were problems with Cyberlink issuing keys over the weekend). If that does not fix the issue, then I will go with your advice. I assume if I create a restore point in XP prior to removing the drivers that I can always restore and get them back, just in case I really muck it up... Thanks again... Update: A million thanks, rarredoa... your solution worked flawlessly for me! The upgrade to PowerDVD 8 Ultra did not fix the problem, but did give me better options for audio so it was not a total waste of money.
Now my problem is that once I saw a movie in blu-ray, it is hard to watch non-blu-ray movies... but I think the solution is to watch more blu-ray movies... Thanks again! |

I wanted to thank you so very much! This also solved my problem!
![]() *Update* Guess I shouldn't have been so excited. I quit out of the program and reopened a few hours later to watch a movie and it was doing it again, so I'm going to try WinDVD 9 and see if that works or not. Last edited by bdcrlsn; 05-03-2008 at 01:10 AM. |

After encountering the same problem with WinDVD, I did some snooping around and I think I managed to it. I have an 8800GT with a widescreen monitor and I play a bunch of old games that don't support widescreen resolutions, so I had changed the display scaling from "use my display's built-in scaling" to "use nVidia scaling with fixed-aspect ratio." Well, I just turned it back to "use my display's built-in scaling" and wha-la! Success! So, if you continue to have problems, check your display scaling!
