Default Doomsday

Hey all,

Curious as to how many of you saw Doomsday over the weekend. I'm guessing not many of you considering its abysmal box office performance I saw it and enjoyed it quite a bit. While I feel that a lot of the action was poorly cut, the movie was still entertaining. Road Warrior + Escape from New York with a dash of Planet Terror and Underworld for good measure.

I'm also looking forward to the Blu release (hopefully Universal will be releasing by then), as the film had some strong palette changes halfway through the movie which should be very refreshing on Blu. Any opinions?

Let's keep this civil guys, if you didn't like it, come and share your opinion, but let's not have any flaming alright?

After reading your review and one from a co-worker, I think I'm going to see this.

Watched it this weekend, agree- Mad Max + Escape from New York.. with a few attractive females.. = Decent movie. Nice death scenes, good action sequences.. overall not a horrible movie.

So awful is was awesome.

Ripped off 28 days, 28 weeks, waterworld, land of the dead.... many more.

Good thing is, the movie doesn't take itself serious as you can tell with the main bad guy with the Mohawk dancing to Good Thing by Fine Young Cannibals.

Basically it makes NO sense and at many points you are left to wonder what the hell this movie is about. Luckily there is plenty of violence and bad lines to keep you going without really caring what you are watching.

I would not ever buy it but maybe one vieweing via rental on blu.

As a huge Escape from New York fan, it was clear that the director lovingly ripped off EFNY and the Road Warrior. The main titles used the exact same font as EFNY down to the date followed by "NOW". Also the computerized map. Without a doubt it was an awful movie, but I loved it. As far as death scenes go, it might even have the best: don't spoil it either. I think if they advertised this better, it would have made more money. I really, really hope we get a good transfer with lossless audio. Basically you take two parts Escape from New York, two parts Road Warrior, one part 28 Days Later, a dash of Gladiator, a dash of Land of the Dead, a twist of Aliens and throw in an 80's punk/techno soundtrack and you have this movie.

I saw this recently, and whie the plot made almost no sense, it was entertaining. Whenever Universal decides to release on blu, I'll probably get it. The one thing I really noticed was that Rhona Mitra really bulked up for the movie. I mean, I saw her in Nip/Tuck and Shooter, but in this movie she really looked like she could beat the hell out of people. I didn't really get the ending, but maybe there will be a director's cut when it comes on blu-ray.
