There will always be a need for a PS4, PS5, PS10. The underlying hardware will always be outdated before the end of the consoles lifecycle. Just the way it is. I am glad that Sony appears to want to continue to extend the life of the current product though. I can't wait to see what new feature Sony adds to the PS3 via a firmware update. That will at least delay the need for a PS4.

IMO, RAM is the only shortcoming on the PS3. |

There will definitely be a PS4, but the PS3 will be around and supported for a good number of years

Having the same hardware for some x number of years and being able to optimize code for that hardware-set, can only go so far. Even if there weren't any huge leaps in processing power over the Cell processor that is currently being used, at some point, they'll need to upgrade the level of graphics card in the system to keep pace with technology. The amount of RAM currently in the system is probably another item that would have to be addressed to keep pace.

Yea. Remembe when the PS1 seased production back in 06? The console was around for about 11 years and as for the PS2, its still going strong, 8 years after it first launched.

You mean keep pace with software? I agree with everything else. The only shortfall I see is the PC's ability to never cease growing. You can always upgrade your pc with new hardware for the latest software. With a console you have software being limited by fixed hardware. Yes, there will be a PS4. Are you kidding? Did everyone see the cell processor and forget about the work being done on a quantum computer? Here's a link for a quick search I did o nthe matter just to make sure nobody forgot about what is really going on: http://computer.howstuffworks.com/quantum-computer.htm can we please stop acting like the PS3 is going to solve the meaning of life through firmware updates?
