Default Onkyo listening modes and PCM "direct"

I have the 705 and I am not happy with the the lossless SQ that I get if the track is PCM. With the Onkyo, when you set the PCM to default to the "Direct" listening mode, you lose all of the EQ, delay and db balancing that the automated setup has set.

I watched Casino Royale tonight and I think the Dolby actually sounded better since it used all of the room adjustments. (output balance, time delays, etc.)

So, my question is for Onkyo users, and specifically the 705. What can I use to process the lossless PCM and still take advantage of my delays, output balance and other EQ settings from audyssey, yet get best available SQ?

Then I have a problem.

There are two different PCM input types to be set up when mapping the listening modes to the input types:

PCM/Analog and multi-channel PCM. I have PCM multi set to multi-channel. But, PCM/Analog doesn't offer multi-channel as an option. When I play anything with PCM lossless, the receiver must be seeing it as PCM/Analog and not multi-channel PCM, because it will not give me the multi-channel option.

Maybe the output on the BD player needs to be changed? Currently it set for bitstreaming everything.

not sure if this is an issue in your case but from what I read pcm only outputs 5.1 via hdmi. If you use optical/digitial outputs it will only output 2.1

BD to receiver is HDMI. No optical.

It has to be a simple setup issue. I looked at the manual, and there's a grid that shows the options available with the various inputs. It has to be reading the input from the BD as conventional PCM, as that input type doesn't allow for multi-channel. I just don't know how to fix it.

Try setting the BD Player to PCM output instead of bitstream maybe? I'm with ya, I do not like Direct mode either, my 605 is always on "Mutlich" whenever available.
