Im waiting for an optical cable will then be hooking up my ps3 to my reciever its a pretty old reciever although it does support dts 5.1 and dolby 5.1 and pro logic II .I know i pick dolby digital 5.1 and dts thats obvious but im not sure what pcm settings to pick theres 2ch 88.2kHz and 176.4Khz how do i know if theyre ok to pick so i dont damage my speakers. Also whats AAC as thats on the list too and whats it mean in the manual when it says if bitstream is selected for optical some of the sound might not be played.

When it says that some of the sound wont be played when bitstreaming over optical, means that High-def audio codecs will be downplayed to their core component tracks so that the information can be passed through the cable. An optical cable does not have the bandwith to bitstream high def audio codecs or more than 2.1 PCM. If you want a surround sound experience and you are using an optical cable, you must set it up to bitstream the core DTS or Dolby Digital tracks to the receiver.

ok I have a question to go kind of along with the first post...
I have my Audio Outputs on Linear PCM (optical) on my PS3 (80GB). Now my issue is that I was watching Gods and Generals, 101 Dalmations (Platinum) & Indiana Jones over the weekend and certain random parts of the voice audio not complete audio (music & sound effects) where not playing??? Any reason why this is? I am running an Onkyo receiver not sure what model, but its newer. Is my issue just a matter of changing my Audio Output Options to Bitstream? Any help would be greatly appreciated ![]() Thanks Rich ![]() |

Resident Evil : Extinction (Dolby True HD 16-bit via TOSLINK) - Showing as DD Multi-Channel at 448 Kbps
300 (Dolby True HD 16-bit via TOSLINK) - Showing as DD Multi-Channel at 640 Kbps PS3 owners looking to take advantage of the audio bit rate via TOSLINK should embrace DTS / DTS-HD MA over the other audio formats. Contradicts what is mentioned in the below chart. ![]() |

https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread.php?t=41820 As far as damage to your speakers are concerned, you don't have to worry. If you turn the volume up and your speakers cannot handle the signal, you will either hear distorations or you will blow your speakers. Before that happens, you will probably damage your hearing permanently. |
