Default Quick answer needed:XBR4 FRY'S Warranty $179 3 yr, worth it?

It will cost $179 for Frys to warranty my item for another 2 years in addition the Sony Warranty (3yrs total)

Is it worth it? I never had to use a warranty on any of my SONY Tvs, monitors etc , except in 6 years later when it got dimmer it was time to buy a new one anyways.

Paid for the TV already, but can't fit it in my camry, so I have to wait for my friend to get off of work tonight.

It's electronics you never know if it's going to turn on the next morning, plus in case something happens you'll get your tv fixed at no extra charge.

I found out that if its only 229 for a 5 year warranty I'll go back and do it.
It seems a 5 year will cover my worries
Thanks for letting me know about that!

But I'm just curious if any one of you have had to use a sony warranty before? Frys just told me that Sony will be doing the inhouse fixing, not Frys. They also just told me that they would give me a loaner tv if they needed to take the TV away.

Maybe another question to ask if have anyone of you regretted purchasing a warranty? I just thought Frys might be shady, but I don't think they are lying about Sony doing the servicing.

Coming from a retail side of things, its a fact that electronics have problems and need repairs in the 5th year more than the 3rd and 4th combined...With that said, if you do buy it, buy the 5 year.

I agree with everyone on this and buy the extra coverage. I have a thread currently going for my Sony Grand Wega and fortunately Sony extended the coverage on the TV for a known defect. The repair without the Sony coverage is about $1200 for replacement of the optical block. It is also great that Sony stands behind its products to keep their customers happy. I will have had my 55" for 3 years come June.

Indeed you guys are very helpful!

5 year it is, tonight I will go back for it.

I just didn't want to make any compulsive decision. Its hard when the salesman puts pressure on you. I'm glad I came home to talk to other people about it.

In this economy I can afford to make 0 impulse buys.

Sony is a product that I'm very happy with. I think out of all the LCDs out there, the Xbr4 may be a product that I will use past the 5 year mark and if not, give it to a family member so I want it to be good for a while.

Yeah man thats a great thing to do is get a warranty from the store. Because they will come out and fix it most likely. You get the factory warranty but its usually a year and you have to send the whole set out which is a pain...Your getting it for a good price too...I got a samsung 52 inch Lcd..and paid 299 for a 4 year best buy service plan.

When i did this...I thought man this tv jumped in price when i added this 299
But then you think down the road...if it breaks your covered. If not you wont be constantly worried.

Go for it!!!!!!!!!!! Congrats on the new TV

I did read where someone said that neither the Sony warranty or the extended warranties cover dead pixels unless there is a certain percentage of dead pixels. Extended warranties can be tricky sometimes, so read the fine print carefully and know what is does or does not cover. I didn't buy an extended warranty, nor am I worried about it. In MOST cases, a failure will occur in the first year.

Bought the warranty! Great thanks again!
I won't look back!

The TV its TOTALLY awesome !
Black hawk down it appears live with the rockets are literally coming out of the screen in 3D!

I'm glad that warranties actually mean something instead of some false guarantee.

OH and NO CLOUDs, no dead pixels! No flashlights

Hey, how much did you pay for the XBR if you don't mind me asking? And how big is the screen size? I'm wondering because I saw on ad in the paper for it but it didn't say the price... it just said "ON SALE!!" instead. Thanks.

Damn! My $2000 budget is contingent on my paycheck for the 31st! Looks like I'll miss this sale

Oh well. Have fun with your new Sony, I'm definitely jealous over here.

Best I've seen around here is $1999 which alternates between Best Buy and HHGregg. When I bought mine it was on sale at BB, but HHG price matched it and delivered it next day (a Saturday) so that I didn't have to blow a vacation day to be home for the delivery.

For $179, that is definitely worth it. I paid $219 for my 3 year warranty (from Fry's as well) in October. I was told I could extend my warranty again after those 3 years, but that price is probably different compared to paying 5 years upfront.
