Default Need a shelf for my Blus...

Can anyone recommend any cheap (lower than $40) shelves that I can use as a Blu/DVD/Game rack?

I picked up one of these on the cheap:
http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage....=1171672960010

The issue with Blu-rays is with the rounded edges they fall over much easier. I use Close Encounters of the Third Kind box set as a bookend to keep the others standing up in the unfinished row.

I have the same one and I have to use a bottle of Jack Daniels to hold my up on the unfinished row. (Honestly)

I am being forced to build my own shelves... I have seven 74-DVD towers, and am almost out of wall space. In measuring I currently have 35 and a half linear feet of DVDs/Blus. I now have six 8-foot shelves. Should hold for now.

Sorry typed the whole thing realizing it doesn't help answer your question. I will soon have some DVD towers I could sell

You must have at least one box set of something. (I also noticed it looks better to organize Blu-rays by studio, instead of by title )

I would recommend the Atlantic Elf stand from amazon. I think it sells for around $32. It is a great stand and you can adjust each shelf height for dvds or blu-rays. It will hold about 150 blu-rays.

From amazon.com, search "oskar multimedia wood storage cabinet" in the electronics category

2 results pop up, click on the one actually titled oskar multimedia wood storage cabinet.

Click on "31 used & new" then seller AVthing In Its Place has it for $124.95 shipped.

Holds 1,080 CDs or 504 DVDs, shelves can be adjusted to fit anything. Depending on your collection, it can hold Blu-rays, DVDs, CDs, video games, larger paperback books, etc. Small footprint at 40" wide x 8.5" deep!

EDIT: I just noticed the under $40 requirement, buy this has serious room to grow for anyone else looking for a shelf

(sorry, my link wouldn't work...I'm on the PS3 and can't cut and paste...and the lower case "L" and capital "i" look the same)

Sounds like the Best Buy one is a piece of crap. I think I may bite on the Amazon.com one. Any other ideas or recommendations?

How are you at woodworking. I bought four 1"x8" pine boards. Used two for the sides and the other two for the top, bottom and shelves. I made my shelves adjustable by drilling two rows of holes down each sideboard about an inch in from the front and back. The easiest way to get everything lined up is to get a piece of pegboard and square it up with the bottom and start drilling holes going up. The whole thing took me about four hours to build including the trip to Home Depot.

I had my dad build me a wall shelf for my DVD's, Blurays etc. He is really into woodworking. I gave him the measurements of the DVD's and told him I wanted it to be able to hold up to 1,500 movies. He built everything at his house, did a dry fit and then brought all the pieces when they came for a visit. To say I was amazed is an understatement. I was actually two units that fit side by side. It goes from floor to ceiling and covers the entire wall. We cut out the chair rail and floor moulding so it would be flush with the wall. It only comes out 5 1/2 inches from the wall and looks like it was always there. Gorgeous piece of woodworking. here is the kicker. Total cost was 110.00 bucks. That's for everything. I will post pics as soon as I can.

QFT

Just go to a discount furniture retailer (most good furniture stores have these located around the area they're in) or Ikea for something cheap.

I built one out of old barn-boards (yes, I'm from the midwest).
Anyway... Built it when I was in college for all my DVD's... seven boards and a handful of screws later, and the thing works like a charm...

Had it for about 7 years now. Sturdy as anything you'll find in the store.
Holds about 300 DVD's.

Not sure how many you're looking to hold... but we have a lot of stuff from Ikea, and we love it. It's all sturdy and actual wood as opposed to the fake pressed-board crap... This guy holds 100 and is fairly cheap (assembly required).

And this is something completely off the wall!
