Default BB still pushing HD-DVD??

Ok first off, not really sure if this has been discussed. I tried using the search function but when you type in "hd-dvd" in the box, all i get in return is a white page with nothing. So I type in "puppies" and got some results back. Werid huh??

Anyway..................

The one thing that felt wrong tonight was my cousin and I went to BB and we were the only ones on the Blu-Ray side looking at movies while there were 10 people on the other side buying HD-DVD movies. BB is only doing 30% off HD-DVD at the moment, but all the titles are MSRP. TMNT is $34.99, so people are getting them for 25 bucks basically. Still to high for a dead format for me, but people will buy them for they want them / think their getting a deal.

It shocked me that BB still had the HD-DVD display up with the player running the demo disc still near the front of the store. Wouldn't that bring some sort of confusion to a non-knowledgeable consumer? I guess the one thing that makes up for it is they didn't have any HD-DVD players for sale.

The store we went to has one whole side dedicated to Blu-Rays and the other side dedicated to HD-DVD. Which if divided inot sections probably come out to 4.

my best buy has completely sold out of our hd-dvd players, including the display model. we have two sections left of hd movies. i made my supervisor change the layout so blus were facing the door. so far it's working well. but people aren't really buying too many of the hd-dvds. we didn't have a great selection in the first place.

Just trying to push it out the door before they have to send it back.

Can't blame them for that.

Just wait a week. Rumor has been circulating that on after March 26, everything goes back. My Best Buy has 2 sections for HD DVD and 4 for Blu-ray, but they also had 1 entire section in the New Releases that was devoted to I Am Legend on Blu.

The only thing retailers are "pushing" when it comes to HD-DVD is "pushing" it off their shelves as fast as they can.

My local Best Buy has an HD-DVD endcap, but the player and TV are turned off, and it looks like it was in the process of being dismantled.

Toshiba paid for that encap for months. It'll remain till their lease expires, or they decide to pull it to replace with something else

They just opened a brand new Best Buy (March 8th) about three miles from my house. It's got Blu-ray displays all over the place and tons of BD's for sale. On the back of one of the DVD aisles there is a small section of HD-DVD's -- maybe 4ft. long.

There are three consecutive end-caps with Blu-ray/HDTV set-ups. On the DVD player aisle there is one HD-DVD player with a 'Sale' sign.

This hardly reflects BB "pushing" HD-DVD from my neck of the woods.

I visited one of the local Best Buys, in Durham, and they had a sign up stating they will be sending back all HD DVDs at the end of the month. I can't wait for more BD titles to choose from.

I knew someone that worked at White Castle for many years. Every year they'd do a big promotion of ten hamburgers for X dollars. X was exactly the price of one burger multiplied by 10, so there was no discount at all...but people went crazy for the promotion every year!

Absolutely hilarious.

And now Amazon does the same thing, with their special deals where if you buy one book they offer you a deal of that book plus another book for a price that's just the normal Amazon price of the two items. I can't imagine they would do this if it didn't worked.

So, yeah, people do tend to go nuts when they think that they're getting a deal.

The BB in my area has been slowly changing. I don't think there are any HD DVD displays now. The only one I saw in the past, normally across from the xbox section, is gone. The HT room had both being displayed earlier but now only seems to be showing blu-ray (although, maybe they have an HD DVD player still in the setup and it just wasn't being used when I was checking recently -- didn't check close enough to know for sure).

The HD DVD media section has remained the same size but is pretty wiped out. It has been split 7 (blu-ray) to 3 (HD DVD) sections-wise for a quite a while with 1 of the 7 blu-ray sections being one of those middle-aisle type units. Recently, I thought they had gotten rid of that (upset me at first) but they had just moved it to the front of the store by the registers. Haven't looked to see if there are still HD DVD players being sold or not.

Taco Bell does the same thing with its taco 10-packs, and In-n-Out Burger does the same with its combo pricing.

Given that it's pretty easy to calculate the unit price on a 10-pack, you'd think people wouldn't fall for it.
