What happens when you put a PS2 game in a 40GB? Does it not show up or disk read error or what?

no although that is a good idea. I was just wondering as I dont know.

A box comes up telling you the game doesn't run on your console. Nothing special.

Yeah, the message clearly states that this version of the ps3 doesn't support ps2 discs. That must suck.
