Default Guy Movies

I posted my other top ten list and it got a bit of reaction so I figured I would post another one of my old features I wrote for the defunct nonmovie forum. This is my opinion of the top ten GUY MOVIES.

Got a problem with the list let me know, as always with top list there will be a lot of discussion and disagreement. And here they are in order from 10 to 1 Again this is just my Humble Opinion.

10. Fight Club
What can I really say about Fight Club. It is a great movie especially for guys. It has all the elements we need. Fights, comedy, intrigue. David Fincher crafted an unbelievable adventure in Fight Club. It constantly keeps us trying to figure out what is going on and who these people are and why they are doing what they are doing. The cast is stellar and plays their parts to a t. The small hints hidden throughout the movie are so inane that you can miss them even after many repeat viewings. The movie is just flat out fun and smart. It is a mystery with a sense of humor. That is why it makes 10 on my list.

9. Caddyshack
If you are a guy and have not seen Caddyshack just hand in you guy card because you are killing me. Caddyshack is the quintessential guy sports movie. Golf is so serious but in this movie it is a great thing and provides many laughs. Especially memorble moments are Chevy Chase's nananana and of course Bill Murray's insatiable hunt for the gopher who is smarter than him. The movie is laugh out loud hilarious and the cast makes for a great time. If you want a sports movie you can do no better than this. That is why it is number 9 on my list.

8. Swingers
Ah Swingers. This is one of the best indies ever. Vince Vaughn and Jon Favreau are struggling actors in LA. They spend their nights with all their struggling actor friends partying at the LA hot spots. The comraderie is something that will remind every guy of themselves and their friends and the situations are things that every guy has been through or will go through sooner or later. The movie is hilarious. Vaughn gives his best performance ever here hands down. The movie is great and that is why it is 8 on my list.

7. Enter the Dragon
Um Bruce Lee. That is all I really have to say right. This is another one that is required viewing for all guys. Bruce Lee is quite possibly the greatest movie martial artist that we will ever see and this will never be more apparent than in Enter the Dragon. Not only does Lee ooze cool, he is pure badass and everyone in the movie knows it. His art is so quick so powerful. The movie itself is really a little outlandish, but it does not really matter because we are watching it for one thing, Bruce Lee. The final fight in the movie is one of the most memorable in movie history. That is why it is number 7 on my list.

6. Goodfellas
Goodfellas is the fairly true story of Henry Hill. Hill was a mobster and had some dealing with some very bad men, especially his two best friends played by Joe Pesci and Robert DeNiro. Scorcese has crafted what many consider the ultimate Mob movie. It is violent and unforgiving in it's portrayals and shows the true nature of La Cosa Nostra. Hill gets in so deep there is no where to go. He is hooked on cocaine and sells a ton of it. The movie is a great piece of American Cinema and a great guy movie. The final lines of the movie are some of the most memorable in my mind. It deserves number 6 on this list.

5. Bullitt
Steve Mcqueen is the coolest guy on the planet. He is so good in his movies, Bullitt happens to be my favorite McQueen movie, other than The Great Escape. This is a guy movie through and through. Cops and Bad guys and one of the gretest Car Chases in a movie ever through the streets of San Fancisco featuring a Mustang and a Charger. McQueen's portrayal of Bullitt is great, he plays it cool and hard. He is unforgiving and a damn good cop. Bullitt is deserving of its spot in the top 5 AT 5.

4. The Road Warrior
Mel Gibson will never be better that he was as the road warrior, Max Rockatansky. Max happens upon a fuel refinery in post apocalyptic Australia that is being savaged by a biker gang. This takes place a few years after the events of Mad Max, where he avenges his wife and sons death against a Motorcycle gang. Max is badass. He agrees to help the people of the refinery fight off the gang. This is an awesome movie and one of the best apocalyptic movies you will see. The action is awesome and the car scenes great. That is why it is number 4.

3. The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly
Widely considered one of the best westerns ever made. Sergio Leone crafted an unbelievable movie with a great cast. Eastwood, Lee Van Cleef, and Eli Wallach all turn in great perfromances. The action is great. The score by Enio Marccione is one that everyone is thinking of while reading this. This is a great film with great scenes. It is a beuatiful film and provides plenty of entertainment. Which man will walk away with the fortune who knows. Great movie and that is why it is number 3.

2. The Dirty Dozen
War movies are pretty much all considered guy movies, but in my mind they do not get any cooler than this one. Lee Marvin is assigned to put together a team to infiltrate and destroy a German compund in WWII killing many German officers. His men are chosen from the worst the miltary has to offer, prisoners who are sentenced to death mainly for crimes in the war. He chooses a team of 12 for what is considered a suicide mission. They are promised freedom if they survive. The cast is unmatched, Charles Bronson, Telly Suvalis, John Cassavettes, Jim Brown, George Kennedy, Donald Sutherland, Ernest Borgnine, Robert Ryan and of course Lee Marvin. This is one that will make you laugh and cheer. The action is great. It is definitely deserving of Number 2.

1. Die Hard
Is there really any other movie that fits here. Die Hard is one of the best action movies ever if not the best. No one can deny it that it is at least not a contender for the top spot on everyones list. John McClane (Bruce Willis) is an ICON in American Cinema and so is his signature line. McClane as the good guy facing impossible odds against one of the best on screen villians Hans Grueber (Alan Rickman). The movie has action from wall to wall and a good amount of subplots that do not get in the way. The shoeless walk across the glass is one of the most painful scenes to watch ever. "Now I have a machine gun. Ho ho ho.". Classic. Action and awesome is the only way to describe it. Great movie and cast. That is why it is NUMBER 1

And there they are. My top 10 guys movies of all time. Feel free to argue about it, I know everyone has an opinion. I hope you enjoyed.

Its a decent enough list. I like that you left off Retarded Guy's movies like 300 and The Rock.

I think Rounders, despite the "love interest" etc. is a guy movie..... they tried to put enough romance in it to hook in the females, but my wife just can't understand how I hate the Bourne movies, and most other Matt Damon movies (got a Team America-World Police flashback...hahah) but I love this flick!!!!!! She can't stand it because she doesn't understand why you'd want to watch a movie over and over when it's about poker and you know who wins/loses...... geez... women!

Great #1.

The only complaint is that there isn't any Indiana Jones!!!!

I think I'd add the Big Lebowski and Ocean's Eleven to the list somewhere.

Gladiator at least deserves a honorable mention.

Nice list. So many choices out there for its definetly a hard decission.

Alright, I got an odd ball movie to throw out there, but would you consider "Pool Hall Junkies" to be a man's movie or just a general movie?

Nice list.

You could actually make a list of 100 Guy movies. I'm positive there are easily 100 good guy movies out there.

Any war movies...because, well, we go to war...Ive been there when I was in the Corp so movies like Saving Private Ryan, We were soldiers, Blackhawk Down, Platoon hit home in a lot of ways. Full Metal Jacket is a great example because it is so dead on accurate, that it makes me smile everytime I watch it.
